I have acquired a 74 and wish to do a mild custom in appearance only, the problem is that the motor runs good but does smoke so I would like to freshen it up but cant seem to find a good supplier of early 1.8 parts. Does anyone know of one. Also does anyone know if a later model 1.8 will bolt up to an early transmission. I just want a nice little custom truck with stock running gear. and don't want the pain of running gear modification. Also would be interested in a reman motor if anyone knows where to acquire a 72-74 unit. Last question: does anyone know if later model 1.8 parts will work on the early version I.E , rings bearings valve etc.
Thanks

Early motor parts are hard to find. And no, the later 1.8 motor will not bolt up to anything earlier than 76. The early motors are a species of their own, and have their certain weaknesses. Good luck with your truck! And welcome

I have a 73 motor and trans with 2 gasket sets for the motor. The motor has been tore down already
and it only had 28000 miles on it but sat for to many years. I rebuilt a 76 motor before I found the gasket sets.
I will sell the engine and trans but it would have to be picked up and I live in Indiana. PM me if your interested.
