im going to need to work out some dents and such but im trying my damnedest to avoid using bondo so i will have to pick up some paint stripper tomorrow.
im going to need to repair or replace the driver side tail light area of the bed its bent in at the nub the tailgate locks on and below from the old bumper hitting it. as well as repairing some bondo the previous owner had on the passenger door that cracked.
i have my dad and my uncle to help out with the final stages of body work and the painting, im doing the interior and most of the engine work myself with help during the install, going to have the exhaust done by a local shop.
i have a good idea of what im doing for the interior now im working on a sketch of, will start on that while i get the engine ready and find a transmission. once i figure out where the new shifter hole is going to be i can start making a center console :D the dash is going to be modified a little bit for the new gauge panel im making, getting these gauges + the tach. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Auto-Meter- ... c3&vxp=mtr

got my block and crank back :ebiggrin
Image
they painted the block black like i was hoping, im not a big fan of the orange. i gave every surface of the block that wasn't painted a good spray down with wd40 so it doesnt rust before i hit it with the solvent washer and start assembly
Image
crank looks great, has a good layer of grease on it so im not worried about it rusting but man is that stuff sticky
cant wait to start rebuilding

well the weber sold, have spent the last 2 days at pick n pull getting a pair of 97 blazer vortec heads ready to come off.. had to go and come back both days for misc tools. went back today and came home with these :ebiggrin

I need to clean them up still
Image

again dirty but working on that as soon as I post this, I know it looks like there is a fat crack in it but that must have been the gasket  I saw it in the pic and went to check and I cant find any sign of a crack.
Image

plastic valve covers  really sturdy though, they do their job of saying look at me im vortec swapped"

little bit of time with a razor blade and a poly abrasive wheel on my drill and I have this so far. thankfully no cracks spotted yet
Image

edit:
after a few minutes of time and a $4 set of harbor freight wire wheels I ended up with this :ebiggrin
Image

Image
also got the hollow push rods with the heads for free. between the cost of the heads and the wheels to clean it up I only have $118 into them. GM says these heads flow as good or better than their stage 2 bowtie heads in stock form overall im pretty happy with the pair of them cant wait to put them on my block 8)

just placed my order for a set of 4.3 swap mounts+ rubber cushions+ bolts from power by ace
will be hunting for a transmission next weekend so I can get started on making the new trans crossmember and get everything mocked up :ebiggrin finally coming together 8)

I read a lot into it, hotrod magazine thinks the VERY early 4.3 heads with the perimeter valve cover bolts flow better than the first center bolt ones, but the vortec ones flow more than both by far, the early one have ports similar to the old 305 v8 heads while the vortecs ports are based on the LT1. gotta be careful tho, they started saying vortec on them a while before they went with these heads, anything pre 96 will flow a lot less. ported pre 96 heads have a hard time matching stock 96+ heads I have seen flow bench results

an he didn't want much for them, can probably get both for under a grand he has too many cars and no time for them

yep one has no motor, good body, one runs and drives but got rolled.
the 22r idea would be considerably easier to fit

I will talk to him when I see him

aand today I broke out the grinder and took off all the rough and jagged casting on the block

also spent a couple minutes filing a bit of a chamfer at the bottom of the cylinders to get the rough edge off

rebuild set will be here tomorrow or Wednesday, picking up a transmission next so I can mock everything up and cut the new holes in the floor etc.
starting to re-wire everything and get the new electrical system laid out with the jeep relay/fuse box, switch panel and dash layout. picked up a piece of tinted plexiglass for the gauge cluster and switch panel faces.
will spend a good while working on it this week lots of time off hoping to knock out a lot of the wiring and get it cleaned up more.
