there IS something mildly heroic about busting a new tire... 8)

I mean seriously though, it takes a LOT of PSI to puncture a tire.

Well, I did not mean PSI as in tire pressure. I used the term "PSI" because I knew that somebody would rag on me if I said "it takes a lot of force". That statement wouldn't be incorrect, but it doesn't address the whole issue.

You can beat a tire with a mini-sledge and it probably (note the word "probably") won't puncture or pop. On the other hand, you can probably pop a tire with an ax or the right knife. It all comes down to how much force you can concentrate in a tiny area.

I mean it does still take a lot of force to punch through the several layers of rubber, steel, and polyester that make up a tire.

So yeah, when you pop a tire, you're doing something pretty awesome, that most people don't get to do in an entire lifetime. (OK, that's being a little ramatic). :D

You guys have never been sprint car racing. Tire to tire racing and you WILL pop a tire. When you do you hope it's the left front so you can still finish the race.

WOW theres a name I haven't heard in a long time is Big O still around???? From experience. They handle like ass both on and off road IMO.
I prefer Goodyear Wrangler Radials or BFD Mud Terrains. Definitely Wranglers for best handling and performance in both situations. as far as warranty and replacement, discount aint bad but yeah I do happen to know the managers of several tire stores. not a problem. Pro Rate $450 on a set that I ran up to 30K miles. Warranty? no questions asked, here's ur new tires. LOL.

San D is pretty much the offroad capital of the US. I ain't never seen a Big O (lol) tire on any race trucks coming off the floor at the local shops. just an observation. offroad racers pretty much take a Wrangler or whatever and have a tire cutter cut it into knobbies anyway. I'll stick with what tire I know works and continue to have my friends replace them at little to no charge.

Go out in the stix and BigO isn't necesarily uncommon. BIgO certatinly is still around. I wouldn't put 'em on my main truck to be sure, but like I said, they have a good reputation for being reasonable with warrenty claims, and the warrenty does come included with the tire. If I thought I was going somwhere I was going to trash a set of tires though, I'd mount a set on some steel wheels and flog 'em off the road.

My dodge came with wrangler RT/S s and I don't like the traction in the rain, although it is fun to roast 'em, and they do hold up well. Since I moved from PA to AZ it is not as big of an annoyance. I don't take it far enough off the road to comment much on how it handles off the road. It's a competant tire in the washes and dirt roads. That's as far as I've ever taken my truck.

I would also add that a decent (safe) tire is the Bridgeston Dueler A/T or H/T. A/T obviously having the blockier tread. We sold lots of them because they're very reasonably priced. Never seen a set go more then about 40,000 miles though. A/Ts wear a lot faster then the H/Ts. No idea how either handles off the road, but they're competent on the road, and aren't proned to tread ply separation (and noise) like so many other cheap tires. For $80 per tire, I always thought they were very reasonable for what you get.

Well its been raining perty good here so i have a rain report! Yup you can still break em loose but i realy have to goose it. Around a corner i can get em to break loose perty easy if i try to. But they hook right back up in a hurry. Much better than the Bias plys i had but not quite as good as the other tires i have run. But still they rock. :)

it's amazing what a difference in tire size can do for you. i had a set oof 38" bias TSLs on for about 2 weeks and took them off cus if i got on it a little on dry pavement, they'd put you sideways. now i have 36" IROKs on and they're tuff to break loose if it's wet, but mind you i can still break them loose with a little xtra umpf  man i can't wait to be burnin' 39" IROKs on dry pavement w/ the LUV soon!!!! he he he

As soon as I bought my Jeep Grand Iwent out and got 30inch BFG AT's. Best tires I ever bought. I go out in the Snow, mud, hills, everything and they never let me down. I got them at costco and they do everything for free. Roadside assist, flat repair, and if they cant fix it, then I get a new one. I got a puncture in my sidewall, they gave me a new one right away and I didnt have to pay for anything. 8) I would never get anything less than BFG AT's...

I've had my 4x4 Luv for 20 years and run through a lot of tires in that time. My personal favorite, and what I run now, are Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos.

They're competent in the mud and snow, but they also stick pretty well on dry pavement.

I do work for them but that is not the reason.......they say "if we cant warranty it we wont sell it" . its true...a/t tires could have up to 50,000 mile warranty and a LIFE TIME ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY!! that you dont have to send off for....what we do is take the tread depth off the tire and put that towards new ones....most the time if the tire has like up 4/32's off of stock tread depth then its 100% we are fair and we do what we do for a reason.......if you ever have a chance to see us you will know Y!!! thanks nasty in southern oregon!!
