The kits usually come with a spacer that goes under the dash and above the steering column. It is about a half inch thick and goes on the column mount in between the ignition and the headlight switch.
Watch the hard fuel lines where they come off the bottom of the cab, you might want to get them loose from their hold downs and sort them out after the lift is in. In general, just loosen up some of the attachment points where lines and wires are held to the frame or body near where they cross between the two. I think I actually had more trouble with the shifters than anything else, but I was fixing a poorly done 1 1/2 inch lift not installing from scratch.
