I just picked up a chevy luv not sure on year yet. I traded a 350 (block & heads with internals) I had laying around for it. These are the only pics I have at the moment but I will post up more next week. It currently does not have a title which i'm working with my local dmv hoping to get one. If they end up saying I can't get a new title then I will be forced to part it out. Anyways i'm hoping for a title since I have some ideas for this truck.

I read the history on these trucks and i'm trying to figure out what year it is. It has the tail lights below but it is a convertible so i'm guessing the original owner swapped boxes or something.

It also currently does not run so that will be the first thing to figure out. Other then that the body seems to be in fairly good shape.

First of all, welcome!
That bed was used in 72 only. The convertible is custom. And the door handles with the chrome finger nail scraper area is 72 only also. I'm betting it is a 72.
Also, if the VIN starts with LUV and then a few numbers, I think that was 72 only also.
Where are you located?

Welcome! Convertible makes me laugh. But it looks like they did a decent job at least.

Definitely a '72, those all chrome door handles are 1 year only, and Ron's right about VIN and the tail lights. 72s are very unique, there are a few of us active on here that have one of that year.

Welcome to the site. Is there a switch by the E brake handle, another 72 only thing.

thanks for the great welcome guys, now if i'm able to get a title easy enough I was considering making a rat rod out of it. I would more then likely just use the cab (chop it) and steering componets then make a frame for it etc... Now if I did that I was thinking of swapping in the engine and drivetrain out of a Nissan 240 (have the parts laying around) so it would be rear wheel drive and independent suspension in the rear. Also I could slap a turbo on and be over 200hp. It basiclly will have the complete 30's rat rod feel but with a new import engine to be original. The other thing I'm considering is just swapping in a 350 and rock it as is. I'm not eactly sure yet what I will do exactly but I will figure it out soon. Also any input is much appreciated guys, thanks

nice truck and welcome,

I dont think you should do the rat rod thing with it though, seems like a waste..... if you want a 30s or 40s body I will gladly trade you to save that truck. Plus, if you have ever been with the rat rod crowd they will dis-own you for having an import body and import engine.

ya you guys are probably right so I think i'm going to leave the body as is besides fixing any rust. As for the engine thou i'm fairly sure i'm going to swap in a sr20det and complete 240 drivetrain. I'm not going to start any work on it thou until I know for sure I will be able to get a new title. This may take a couple months if not longer to know forsure. :(

Here are some new pics that show the extent of the damage. Also a buddy and I managed to get it running. It runs really well but we have to continuly put gas in the carb for it to stay running.

What is the pump on the top right of the engine? It is seized up and one of the lines were cut.

missing the front grill and headlights

whatever they hit only did minor damage. the bumper is bent and the lower piece which bolts on, frame/fenders etc... are fine.

front half of the floor is gone

The frame still appears to be solid as well as alot of other things. Also there was a receipt in the truck from 1992 when the convertible top was purchased. I managed to locate the guys new address and will be calling him tomorrow. If he was the last person to register the vehicle then I just need him to wright a consent for me to get a replacement title.

Is the pump your asking about in front of the carb. with no belt on it? If so it is an air pump for what little smog equipment that truck had at one time.

so its not needed to keep it running then? i know one of the lines go from it to the valve cover as if its a vaccum line. It smells like the old fuel is working its way through but i'm not 100% positive on that. I'm going to probably check the fuel pump tomorrow.

No not needed. If it is anything like the 76-80 LUVs, the pump injected air from the air cleaner into the exhaust manifold, and a couple other places.

If any of you have exterior parts to sell that will work for me let me know. Mostly front end parts which you can tell I need almost everything.

As a fellow 72er I'll look out for parts for you, but fortunately I think the front end is 'virtually' the same on 72-75. Meaning it won't look dumb if you can't find 72 parts for the front end. I think ctmandu on here has one of the front valences available in fiberglass. On the back end, that round hole is for the backup light. Your engine is pretty complete BTW, it even has the lifting bracket attached to the passenger front of the cylinder head. Back to body parts, don't forget about http://www.car-part.com, I've found a lot of things on there and the scrap yards sort by year pretty well. For example a front bumper if yours is in too bad of shape to get straightened (although maybe a chromer could fix it).
