Hi Guys,
Its good to see that there the 'G' series engines in other parts of the world, and not just in Australia...
Ive been into 'G' series engines for the last 16 years, and I also know that with a turbo bolted to the side they can make good power too.The 'G180' I have in my Holden Gemini sedan makes 580hp at the engine, runs 8.5/1 compression,33psi boost,C16 VP fuel,3 speed auto 7000 stall comverter and transbrake(best 60ft so far is 1.37)MT 26x8.5x15 slicks and has ran a best time of 9.70@137mph with very little track time. The car was built at home and 90 percent of it was built by myself, the only things I didnt do were the ladder bar rear end and paint, but the rest(engine, manifolds, ect)were all done at home....
If any of you guys are after some info on these engines, please dont hesitate to ask as I'll try to help as much as I can....
Regards,
Darren

Turbo is the only way to get proper power from these engines, but will turbocharging these trucks make them not legal to drive on public roads, also what do these trucks weigh???

Darren

its legal to drive damn near anything on the roads here in the US. australia has some of the strictest roadway laws ever.

anyways, the G series engines like the boost now eh?

Yes they love the boost, providing their built the right way as theres a few weak parts in the 'g' series engine's that prpbably scares alot of people away from the turbo side of it.If the weight is 2400 lbs, then it would'nt take much to get them into the 10's on the qtr,,and im sure that would suprise a few people. In Australia to run 10's in our sedan it would cost near $12000AU,I suppose it isn't cheap to go fast but a 10 second car is a good thrill on the street, thats for sure.. :D :D :D :D

Darren

2400 lbs hey!! So is turbocharging these engines in the states a popular thing as it is here in oz????
To those interested,I do build turbo and n/a engines heres in oz that range from 13 seconds down to 9 seconds....Im currently looking into prices to ship these engine's to the US of A..If any of you guys might be interested just send me a PM of email me at gemracin@bigpond.net.au with what your plans are.

Darren

actually there are not a lot of turbo'd LUV's as far as I know, but there sure seems to be a lot of interest in it. The few i have heard of used Impulse parts to swap on a turbo.

Im sure that a LUV running 10 seconds with a G180 powering it would impress alot of people, but like anything it would'nt be cheap, but I suppose these days nothing's cheap anymore....

Darren

that's true. I found a turbo impulse yesterday with the whole setup minus the turbo itself. i figured it would be a bit pricey to score the turbo to go match it. i'm trying to score the stock efi setup myself as i am very tired of the hassels of a carb

The main weakness is the timing chain, you'll need to upgrade it to a double row one,in Oz I get them through VPW Australia. Also change the G180 tenshioner to the G200 one, their alot stronger. As for the bottom end, their strong enough and wont need anything special done as most of the power gains will be in the head...

Darren

Hi Guys,
I had the car on the dyno last weekend,it made 354kw's(474 hp)at the wheels, the car's still using the 3 speed automatic, thats why the power is what it is,if it had a manual 4 speed it would make approx 400kw's(536hp).
The only reason we didn't continue and try and make more power was due to the head lifting on the 354kw ramp and pressurizing the water system,we're confident thats now fixed and now the aim is to make as much power as possable without nitrous...
