Hello all!
So I have actively been involved with the online vintage subaru community for years (ultimatesubaru.org), and so that's where my projects have always been (and also AMC eagles). About a month ago my rooommates decided to purchase a 76 LUV Mikado with a list of problems a mile high. Since the truck was japanese at heart, a agreed to take on such a project and they bought the truck for $475. (No I am not japanese, I just like old japanese cars). 70 hours later, I have gone through the entire engine, started some dress up in the engine compartment, new brakes all around, etc... and it turned out to be a really cool little truck I had some complications going through the engine, like the cylinder head was cracked, and when I ordered a new one they sent me a G200 cylinder head. At that point I just didn't want to deal with sending it back and getting another one because it would have taken way too long, so I machined the necessary things and put on a block off plate for the fuel pump hole, and voila! (as long as the smog tech doesn't it , everyone is happy) .

Also, I had to work with Fresno Isuzu, and I bought the last OEM Mixture control valve in the country apparently. PN# 8942044330
I think its only a california thing anyway. So anyway, I'll post a couple pics (yes thats my subaru brat in the background)

Heres some engine before pictures:

And here's some current engine photos:

Good to see another LUV out there.

I like the Brat, but then again, I am a sucker for anything half car half truck.

More recently I had to address some idling issues with the LUV... turns out there was 2 problems. There was a receipt for having the carburetor professionally rebuilt, so I opted to not mess with it. After determining some symptoms, all fingers pointed to it. (I guess people just can't work on carburetors like they used to) First off I found that the shaft for the idle up cam wasn't physically staying in the carburetor body properly, so it was sliding out where it wasn't contacting the fast idle screw anymore and causing bigger problems. Additionally I discovered that the anti-dieseling solenoid was missing the magnetic needle and spring that are supposed to be inside it. Fortunately subarus and isuzu used the same solenoid back in the day so I had plenty of them lying around. For the fast idle cam I just marred the shaft and added some loctite, and it went back in with some moderate taps of the hammer. Got it all put back together and now it idles like it is supposed to.

Next on the list, a stereo or body effect lights? lol
