Ok. I just purchased this 1981 Diesel 4x4 with 145 k miles. I have been posting about it in the newbie area, but it’s time to get off the porch!

I’m planning on making a hunting vehicle out of it. I will run it around our farm, putting up treestands etc. It crawls around like a caterpillar. Nothing stops it. I also want it to be roadworthy, with all systems up and running.

I just ordered a 1982 shop manual because I read somewhere on the forum here that the 1982 manual has the Diesel supplement included in the manual. I paid $15 on EBay so I feel like I got a good deal.

I also just ordered a NOS fuse block off of EBay. It is coming from Thailand for $75 shipped. There are two left if anyone is interested.

I think I have a short which is draining the battery. The fuse box looks filthy so I figured a new one would be better than trying to clean mine. The cover was missing anyway. I am trying to figure out what the relay is that’s plugged into the fuse box.

Anyway I will post my progress on this journey as I go along.

There is no "great site to find a clean 79 Chevy Luv or a good Diesel Luv". This is a great site, but "clean" trucks rarely come up for sale. The ones that usually come up for sale are "project" trucks that you dump money and time into -- and if you stick with it long and hard enough, they become "clean" trucks. :D

You should probably decide what you're looking for -- a '79 is a "first generation" LUV. It went through the '80 model. There were some changes, but I'll have to leave it to others to give you details. There were NO diesels offered in the US market. The "second generation" was restyled (some loved it, some hated it, some "meh"). As the LUV, it lasted only two years -- 1981-1982. But the same truck was also sold in the US as the Isuzu P'up, which continued through the 1987 model year. If you want a diesel, it would be one of these.
