I have a 4x4 diesel luv with a few blown gears in the tranny. I've found a cheap gas tranny, but heard the bell housing is different. I was wondering if I could use the innerds of the gas tranny and stick them into my diesel housing. I don't really care if the gearing is different.

You should be able to remove the bell housing from your diesel trans, and mat it to the gas trans.
