I've got an 82 LUV diesel daily driver, just a patchwork junker that gets me to work. The alternator died. I've got a parts truck...with a dead alternator too. I've got schematics and trouble charts for Delco alternators, but none for this thing. I believe my stators and fields are good, but I'm kinda lost on the regulator. Anybody got any tips?

take it to the parts store and have it tested

they can do all the fancy testings

There is a place in Tacoma where you can buy parts to rebuild one or they can rebuild it for you... I sure dont remember the name of the place, it seemed like it was somewhere downtown.

Ummm... yeah.. like I was any help :?

What? What parts store can take apart my alternator and tell me if the rectifier is bad or the "diode pack"? lol! All I've ever seen them do is say "yup, it's bad" or "yup, it's good".

There is a bad connection on my "rectifier" that I'm gonna attempt to solder back together. I guess using the LUV to jumpstart a tractor with 4 nearly dead batteries puts a strain on that alternator, huh?

Anybody got a schematic of a LUV alternator (diesel)?

might try the phone book... It's been a while since I lived up there...

I went up there when I was in diesel/ heavy equipment school and the teacher told me about it...

When I was there they could pretty much tell you the problem, sell or order the parts and if you wanted them too, they could also install the parts... It was a good place for hard to find parts and rebuild kits.

They specialized in starters, alternators and generators...
They are not an auto parts store... I think they rebuild and resell for the auto parts stores.

I think I had an old generator off a tractor or something for a customer , and since I could do all the tests at school, I found the problem. Asked several parts stores for the part and couldnt find it... Then the instructor pulls a number out his butt called them up and I went over there. A week later they had the part.

Im sure they would be listed in the phone book... probably under auto stuff

Thanks for the links. I found a bad connection on one of the bigger diodes, I've gotta get in there with a meter and see what's going on other than that connection. Wish I had a schematic...
