Start to finish the recovery took 7hours. I met up whith Elan (they guy whos stuck) and drove him and his wife to my place where we met up whith a long time buddy of mine Allan. Allan brought his 3/4ton suburban (454, sm465 np205, 14FF, D60, 35"BFG muds), then it was off to the site. It had rained all night so the semi firm snow was now a mix of ice and slush and mud, oh goody. So allan and i drive down the road where elan was stuck and set up the winch to pull him out. The second presure was on the sub' it started to sink. We just whent for it and by the time elans truck was free allan sub was almost up to the axles in the snow. So it took some work but allan got the sub free and mobile. Now we hud to keep winching alans truck becouse its only 2wd and wouldnt move un der its own power. This was not working as reverse in the sub was just digging. So allan turned it around and hooked a chain up to elans truck. Now we had 2 stuck truck chained together... So we broke out the winch again and used it to pull both trucks (i must say the Warn 8274 is a god of recovery, we only had one overheat problem). Well we got about 1/2way out and hit a soup hole. The sub was just sinking and was now vary stuck itself. So we winched it out and whent to get another rig. I drove allan home and he hopped in the K-5 that he just got a motor in (454, sm465, np205, 14FF LOCKED, D60, 35" BFG muds). well we gassed this up and got it lisenced (he just got it running and thus the tabs were expired) then we picked up a buddy of allans, chuck, and headed out. Well we get there and do some shufling so now the K-5 is the one pulling elans truck. Progress at first was ALOT smother, the locked rear end was proving to be worth its wieght in gold. But progress was once again hampered when the K-5 found another soft spot and sunk to its alxes. No sooner did we get it pulled out when it started having electrical issues. The winch on it (Warn 8274) was drawing so much that it stole voltage from the coil and stalled the engine. So while we let it cool down we didnt realize that the fuel in the lines was running back to the tank(this entire recovery was up hill). So when allan whent to fire it back up the fuel pump (electric) wasnt pumping fuel. So whith the K-5 anchroed to a tree we used my highlift to make the blazer level and got it running again. So we have progress, then steam starts billowing from the hood of the K-5 and there is an ever growing green puddle beneathe it. So now we have to melt down snow to replace the watter lost from a MAJOR over heat. so now we reach a corner in the trail, and there are no good anchor spots for the winch. So chuck stats thinking and we jump in the luv and go to the main road and start scraping gravel off the road and loading it into the back of the luv. We then drive down to where the trail turns and start throwing down gravel, it worked amazingly well. After we got around the corner the grade lessened and allan was able to drag elan up it no problem, infact elans truck was moving under its own power at this point. We got back to the gravel and rounded up or tools and left. Tired but triumphant
Now i just need to find a place to host the 30photos and the 3videos...
