To me, it seems pretty obvious from the story, the idiot drove off the road reaching for his cell phone on the floor board.

I dont see why everyone keeps saying that. Everyone has camera's and cell phones on them these days. If any car guy saw a 2 million dollar car going down the highway they are going to record it. Hell i bet you could get yourself mapped out just going down the street anywhere by seeing peoples pictures on their cell phone. Dude was just in the right place at the right time
