i need to get reliable info from a honda guy although i doubt many visit our site here,
i need to know if i can bolt a B16a engine to a tranny that is mated to a D15B2 at the moment
i have tried all the tuner sites and asked acouple people that want to sell me stuff i have a plethora of parts at hand and i need to know for sure if i buy the motor if i can use my trans i now have and not have to swap out all of it.
i hear yes it will and maybe?
i know i will need to retain the flexplate and T/C to the one in there but will the B series motors bolt up to this trans?
the recipient vehicle is a 1990 honda civic LX currently has 100% bone stock D15b2 and rebuilt tranny with all new hard parts and hi-per pump
dam thing shifts like a B&M stage 3 in a C-6
neck snapper. but she runs like a stripped assed ape!
any and all help will be greatly appreciated

I can give you a 100% no on that.

The D15b2 is a D-series.

D series only bolt to D series transmissions.
B series only to B series trans, etc.

Honda makes D series, B series, H & F series are compatible, K series (newer engines), and the S2000 has it's own unique F engine series that isn't compatible with anything.

If you already spent money on the D15b2 transmission your best engine choice for power and compatibility for the chassis you have is the D16A6 with a mild cam and D16A1 pistons. If you want the most torque and a DOHC that bolts up to your D series transmission, the DOHC ZC (only available as an import from japan) is the only DOHC engine that bolts up to the D series trans, but it's only ~135hp, no where near the weakest of the B series. In japan, some of the early D series were just called the "ZC", but there are SOHC and DOHC ZC engines so you have to specify what you want.

A good place to get reliable JDM engines is www.hmotorsonline.com. Call up and talk to steve, he's a good guy.

The 94+ teg motors are great. All tegs share the same B18A/B engine from 90 through 01 excluding the GSR and Type-R variants.

If you get a teg to swap into your car, the only ones that will work over wiring wise are the 90-91 B18A engines. Even then you have DPFI instead of MPFI, so you'll need to perform the DPFI to MPFI conversion including the resistor box wiring, which is fairly complicated. If you go this route let me know and I'll find you the wiring information.

The easiest route and best route if you plan on turboing later on is to get the 94-95 teg engine. The 92-93 engine is the same and will work as well, but the wiring harness is strange as it is a DA chassis (older style) still but it's OBD1 instead of OBD0 like your 91 civic (EF chassis). The 94-95 teg engine is OBD1 as well, but has a common and easy to work on harness.

If you get an OBD1 engine, you'll also need the axles, wiring harness, ECU, and all accessories. In addition, to fit a B series engine into an EF chassis like yours, you have to buy a mounting kit. Cheap ones can be found on Ebay and the likes but I'd recommend HASport or Innovative Mounts if you plan on keeping the car long term.

To use the 94+ integra transmission, you have to get a cable to hydraulic conversion set which is pricey. Instead I would recommend selling the 94 integra trans (LS models go for around $400 if in verifiable good shape, GSR for $550, B16 for $600+ if LSD equipped), and then purchasing the proper transmission from a 90-93 integra as it has the same cable actuation as your civic and will work with the speedometer as well.

As for wiring, it's not horrible but if you want to avoid the headache I recommend Rywire for the conversion harness. It's simple and painless. This is the harness you'd need for the 94-95 teg LS engine conversion : http://rywire.com/store/8891-crxcivic-d ... ea01668126

Just ask me any questions before you start. I used to be a Honda guy back in the day before all the ricers took over. It got so crazy that I just sold everything. There are a few real Honda guys out there that know how to make a fast car, but most are a joke.
