Alrighty so here recently i have been misunderstood at work. I just recently became a little more outspoken about my personal beliefs compliments of a good friend of mine. I discovered that i was way more punk than i ever thought. But there is where the misunderstanding comes from. I say this and people instantly think that, that was a fase everyone whent through in highschool and left behind whithout a second thought. Or that its just a crapy kind of music. Well I dont know about any of you or if you have ever seen any true punks but its not a fase its realy lifestyle. I realy get angry when people talk like they know what it is and have no idea, they think they know what punk is becouse they have seen the movie SLC Punk (wich by they way is vary far from actuall punk). So i guess what im getting at is even the most conservitive of people have a little punk in them, they are just wiating for the corect people and circumstances to help them bring it out. I realy think Greg Graffin of the band Bad Religion said it best...
"PUNK IS: the personal expression of uniqueness that comes from the experiences of growing up in touch with our human ability to reason and ask questions.

PUNK IS: a movement that serves to refute social attitudes that have been perpetuated through willful ignorance of human nature.

PUNK IS: a process of questioning and commitment to understanding that results in self-progress, and through repetition, flowers into social evolution.

PUNK IS: a belief that this world is what we make of it, truth comes from our understanding of the way things are, not from the blind adherence to prescriptions about the way things should be.

PUNK IS: the constant struggle against fear of social repercussions"
I guess im just a little frustrated that no-one understands punk as the actuall social and political movement that it is. Just kinda had to vent.

i think that it is cool that you can be an individual and vocalize your views.

but for some reason putting a label on stuff like that erks me, i for some reason cannot fathom why people put such emphasis on letting it be known that they are a certain type or of a specific group

i can see this in religion, because it is a beleif system.

but as an individual myself, i like to think of myself as just that, an individual, i do what i like, and dress how i dress, and i do and say what i think is right.

p.s. in NO way am i trying to put you or your views down or demean them in any way MEPR, i was just using your thread to post my own views.

i'll throw my quick two cents in.. MEPR, it's great you can be more outspoken about your personal beliefs...for me, i think everyoen should be comfortable being whatever and i honestly don't care what... gay, straight, catholic, scientologist, punk, conservative.... whatever.... it only becomes a probelme when you start to infringe on my own beliefs.. then i believe i'll have to do something about it.. but back to the topic ... you go MEPR.. do your thing and enjoy it

yeah i dont usually like labels but as a group punk is suposed to be a vary diverse and accepting group, thats why i call myself that. That and its all about social and political change and a idea that everything can always be made better. True punks are kinda like the ultimate opptimists if you think about it.
Maybe im catching alot of crap lately becouse im around alot of military people and people being a little critical of how things are tend not to go over well whith military people...
