it is homemade as no gemini can with forced induction, but they can be nice little setups with a littl ebit of elbow grease and polish they can look pretty good too

yeah, they supercharge, turbocharge or EFI those little motors and push them way past where i would take them. The turbo goes are using escort xr3 (whatever that thing is) pistons and other odd things like that. One of the guys on the site sent me a bunch of info on turbo charging the 1.8.. sounds like jumble of parts but he says it hauls ass.

This is what I got on slapping a turbo on the Isuzu motor.. It seems like I should understand it, but it throws me off a bit sometimes...

also I'm not sure what sort of transmission is in your LUV. or whether you can get a gemini box??
my gearbox is just a rebuilt gemini one, they are strong enough and I've never broken one.

As for the turbo well I simply modified the inlet manifold by cutting out where the carby bolts onto the top so that there was a large hole leading into the runners, then I TIG welded an alloy plate ontop which suits my throttle body adaptor, I don't know if you can get the sort of LPG throtle body i used over there??

the intercooler is a Mitsubishi VR-4 Galant cooler imported from Japan.

The turbo is also an import, Its off a late 80's model "fairlady Z" ( they are a 300zx over here) which came out with a vg-30 3 litre single turbo V6.

the turbo is custom built here in melbourne using off the shelf Garrett wheels and a comp wheel which is off an australian VL commodore (GM built)

I would however, recommend sourcing a turbo in the US as they seem to be slightly cheaper there. If I were starting again I would probably use a smaller garrett ball bearing turbo like a gt25 or a gt28, depending on where you want the power to be in you rev range.

the distributor is a custom made item, using the base and shaft from the isuzu dizzy, mateing to the top of it a elactronic bosch dizzy sourced from a Nissan Bluebird (series 2, 1982-84 i think). the cam is a custom grind.

you will also need to make an exhuast manifold, I used 3.9mm thick (about 1/8 inch) mild steel pipe in 90 degree bend sections, then cut and MIG welded them all toghether.
engine internals is where things get tricky, alot of people do different things in this area, I have ford laser tx3 turbo pistons fitted, they are a slightly larger piston so you need the cylinders machined out to suit, the other alternative is find a place that makes custom pistons, then have forged pistons made up to match the old pistons, and it'd be pretty much a straigh swap over, shot peen your con rods, put good bearings and a double row timing chain, make sure it all gets balanced. and that would be tough enough for up to 20 PSI and could possibly produce around 200 rear wheel horsepower.....should see you into the high 12's/low 13's on the 1/4 mile.

the LPG we have here is a propane/butane mix, but the equipment I have used is capable of running pure propane which is better anyway.

the dizzy is electronic. its a hall effect type. its set up for 18 degress advance btdc on idle and advances to 40 degrees at high rpm, with a boost retarding device to prevent pinging (detonation)
