The valve covers on my truck now are vented. I found a cool set of Dart valve covers but they are not vented. Is there a reason I can't use them?

Well, your gonna need some way to ventilate your crankcase pressure. I haven't heard of anyone trying to run without a vent, but I would imagine you would eventually start blowing out your oil seals around the valve covers and oil pan. Plus, you need a way to put oil in your engine!

There was a few old engines with a vent in the intake manifold. If you happen to have that style then I don't think you would need a vent in the valve covers.

BTW, some cheap valve covers don't come vented but have a boss where the vent goes that you can punch or machine out.

Are you using a positive crankcase ventilation system? If you do have a pcv valve, you definitley need a vent of some kind. Try and look up those particular valve covers on the Internet. They might say if they have provisions to add grommets. Then with grommets, You can get a vented filler cap.
