I had a 81 nissan, datsun pick up that I put a 327 into, but it had disc on the front. I would say that you would be okay with drums. Not like your gonna be slammin on the brakes all the time. my .02

well i got those brakes done last week and i got the buuick motor in the truck almost. the oil pan on the buick has a weird center sump so it kinda interpheres with the tyrod but ill just have the engine at a high angle. i should have some pics pretyy soon.

Is the Buick 252 a running motor? A stock 4 bbl Q-jet carb for the 252 is computer controlled and is useless with out the computer. A Holley 390 c.f.m with an adapter plate will work fine. The stock 4 bbl intake manifold is an aluminum unit and flows quite well for a factory item. I hope you got a better than stock exhaust manifolds. The crossover crap is tough to fit to a small truck but it helps somewhat if you plan to go with a single pipe.

Yeah the motor runs. i doesnt have a qjet anymore. the guy that had it before my dad put a holley economaster carb on it. i think they flow like 450 cfm. but anyway i did have it running for a short while when it was in my s10. now for the manifolds i dont want to use them but i have to with this small truck. i would like to get some headers but there not enough room. i will be making it dual exhaust though. there no room for the y pipe. i plan on using the stock datsun radiator. ive seen luvs with 4.3 use stock radiators and not overheat. the thing that might be a problem is the starter. it will come very close to the passenger side torsion bar. another thing is the altenator. i have to use the stock 84 regal alt bracket. the altenator will definantly stick out of the hood. so will the top radiator hose.
ok. i should be putting some pics on pretty soon.

Buick V-6 motors are somewhat weird. Here's a rundown of what is:
75 thru mid 77 motors (231) were odd-fire engines.
Mid 77 thru 79 motors (231) were even-fire engines.
80 and on 231 and 252 motors were even-fire, computer controlled engines.
Anything before 77 were early Buick and Jeep engines with points distributors and im not sure if they're compatible with the later engines.
Your best bet is to find a mid 77 thru 79 distributor. It will work with 231 and 252 engines up to at least 1984. Retorfitting the computer really isn't a viable option because of all of the vacuum switches and sensors.
Odd-fire and even-fire distributors cannot be swapped, it wont run correctly at all so be certian that the distributor you find IS an even-fire type. The inductive pick up tabs below the rotor will be evenly spaced. Odd fire distributors will be staggered in groups of 2 tabs.
If you want, you can buy an aftermarket distributor thru Mallory or MSD but that will cost more than a V-8 replacement because it's somewhat of a specialized aplication.
The stock Q-jet carb is also useless because of the fact that it's computer controlled also and there's no way to rework it. A Holley 390 c.f.m. is suited to work well with the Buick V-6.

I hope this doesn't set you back too hard because once things are sorted out and you drive the truck, it will be more than worth the effort.

well i have a computer control distributor in it right now thats just jumped to the cap. it doesnt get any advance when starting so it dotn start. well it will if its hot outside and if the engine is in a good mood.
yeah i think im going to go what with you said and get a vac adv. dist. i positive that will help greatly.
i dot have a holley economaster 4bbl on it too, so im good there.

well i pulled the motor out of it a couple of days ago. had to clean the motor up. it was really greasy and i was getting tired of working on a greasy motor.
but now that ive got it all clean im gonna get a whole ass-load of grabber green engine paint and paint the hell out of the motor. im also gonna paint the tranny green too, so its gonna look pretty cool. also a new mini starter is gonna be bought for the truck along with some other accent pieces for the engine. im gonna be borrowing my friends camera for a couple of days so i should have some pictures.

the engine is done! i finished painting it yesterday night. i think it turned out pretty cool. i painted the block, heads, timing cover, water pump, and intake high temp gloss block. the oil pan is flat black, along with the distributor base. and then the pulleys, valve covers and other various pieces are red oxide primer. im gonna get the tops of the valve covers pinstiped too. id take a pic of it but i dont have a camera, so...
now all i have to do is ge the tranny de-greasified and pained and ill be set.
ok. ill keep ya updated on the progress of the BuiTsun.

got the motor in today after school. it went in with no problems. got it all wired and fuelled up. the only thing that pisses me off is the big stockstyle starter wont fit anymore. and the new intake gasket that i have its leaking coolant everywhere. soooo i hope i dont have to yank the intake off again. other thank that it looks really good in the engine bay. i wish i could take some pics but, as you know, i dont have a camera.
well all i have to do now is get a mini starter, a driveline and some exhaust.
ill keep ya updated.

well i got it to run, sort of. its kinda hobblin along on like 4 cylinders. i woke up all the neighbors though. its running really rich. i have to take the top off the carb in tommorow and swap the jet restrictor to the other set of jets. as you probably know now, i got the starter to fit in there. just had to scoot the ass end of the tranny over towards the driver side, and up she went. the starter is a real piece of crap though. well i guess il get back to yalls tommorow.
peace

last night when i ran the engine i never checked the oil. i had a streak of bad news today. there was a decent amount of coolant in the crankcase. well when i drained the oil it was just a big ol' coolant milkshake. i guess the intake gasket didnt seal and it leaked a bunch of antifreeze in the lifter valley when i was trying to get it running last night.
soooo i took the intake and eveything off and redid the intake gasket with a bunch of RTV. i also torqued the intake in the righ sequence this time. no leaks now though, so im happy. just have to get some oil and crankcase flush and ill be good, i hope.
alright. ill keep ya updated.
peace
