Talk to me about the best gear oil that can be used in my 82 LUV's diff. I heard somewhere that synthetic can actually improve fuel milage. How much truth is there to that?

Regards,
Bob

I swear by synthetics myself. And yes you will get an improvement in MPG, how much is debatable but it will be something. If anything your gears will be happier. One known myth about synthetics is they tend to find leaks better. Ive not been able to debunk this myth, cause my stuff leaked with dino oil as well. The theory is the slicker oil finds it's way into leaky seals and gaskets easier.

djewett, what you said is what I was thinking. I was wondering if anyone had a link to any studies that have been conducted concerning GO. I'm not worried about the leaks, all the more cause to seal things up better. Make sure those gasket surfaces are nice and clean and so fourth.

I will sure go with synthetic engine oil as soon as I get the sludge cleaned out. Now changing oil at every other tank of fuel. I will be happy when it doesn't automatically turn black after running for 5 minutes. Glad I got a good deal on Wix oil filters on ebay.

Thanks for your reply, regards,
Bob
