My cousin has a metro he's been trying to get running for some time now and it has both of us stumped. It has the little 3 cylinder motor. It will crank and idle fine but has no power at all. I know what everyone is thinking, it's a 3 cylinder, what do you expect, but it won't even back over the lip on the ramps it's on, much less make it up the driveway. He has replaced about everything to replace on the outside of the engine, from throttle body, to all sensors, to having the head rebuilt. It has plenty of compression......we are out of ideas, anyone else have 2 cents to put in on it?

is the parking brake on?....

bad injector pump, bad injectors, calipers not releasing at all, bad clutch, bad torque converter, etc... jack up the front of it and see if the wheels spin freely... and then check the back ones...

Have you checked the timing? Is this carbureted or fuel injection? Your fuel pump may not be working, fuel filter may be clogged. Are all cylinders firing? Or could definitely be a brake issue like Finalman said. Check and double check your fuel, spark and air in and out. Good luck, RF.

The cat might be plugged up. I had a friend with an 80's Camaro V6 and he had me drive it.
It ran fine, just no power. I didn't know, so he took it to a shop and the new cat did it.

You might want to check the timing belt and make sure it is indexed right. I had a 94 Metro that was given to me because it wouldn't run it also had the small block(3cyl.)I had three different books and pulled the cover 4 times before i had enough and tossed the books and did it my way. Pull #1 spark plug and rotate the engine and get#1 on top dead center then pull the dist. cap and make sure that the rotor is pointing to #1 dead on.If not then loosen the tensioner an rotate the CAM to get the rotor indexed to #1, adjust the tensioner bolt everything back and your in business if the timing is out.

He found it!! He checked the timing again and noticed the timing was jumping all over the place. The keyway on the bottom gear was loose and was moving around. He broke the gear taking it back off and now can't find a gear for it.lol Thanks everyone.
