Is there an easy way to remove a c- clip from an axle while its installed in the housing? I was trying to remove the axles from my ford 8.8 rear end but gave up after only trying for a few minutes I had to leave and have not yet had a chance to go out in the garage. I tried using various flat head screw drivers and a small prybar and hammer. Any advice would be greatfull.

try pushing the axle in first, remove C clip and then slide axle out. LMK if that works

I was kinda going about things in a dumb way. My brother came over popped out the pin that holds the 2 spider gears in place and said ok try it now, and to my amazment they flew off effortlessly. I felt so stupid after he did that but I guess we all have to start somewhere.

yeah the center pin for the spiders gears also acts as a thrust block. That keeps the axles from coming in any and thus keeps the C-clips in the reces in the carrier to keep them in place.
