Well gas is getting perty pricey so im going to be getting a small bike for running around town on. I dont realy know if i whant a dual sport of a cruiser style bike. I have looked at the BMW F650s but i think they might be a bit too expensive and thus i should come back down to earth. So does anyone know how well the 500cc Honda V-Twins perform. Im looking at the Shadow VLX. And also maybe if someone from the seatle tacoma are could point me twards a good Honda dealer that would be perty rockin. Thanks.

I just sold my Rebel. It was a great bike, but a little small.

You can find the 750 Shadow bikes around here all day for 2000-3500 bucks. That will be my next purchase. 8)

I rode a Yamaha 650 VStar the other day, and I really liked it too.

My rebel got 60mpg, but the center of gravity was off a little for me, since I'm a big guy.

Hey MEPR,
There is a Rebel in the classifieds where I work. I don't think that they were looking for too much out of it.
I will look again when I get to work tomorrow and check.

Steve

MEPR... about 65mph... Wide open.

It's geared a little low, in my opinion. There's no tach, so I couldn't tell you an engine speed, but 65 is about as fast as I could ever get it, and I was much more comfortable cruising at about 60.

But still, on a short commute, what difference does 5 or 10 mph make when your're getting 60mpg?

BTW.. I sold mine for 1000 bucks. It had 19000 original miles, and was damn near perfect for it's age.

I gave 1000 bucks for it, and decided pretty quick that it was too small. 8)

the best bike for the $$$ is a Vstar 650 or 1100. you can find a low mileage 650 custom for $2500. they were Cruiser magazine bike of the year in 1998 (their first year out) and again in 2004. I paid 3600 for my Dragstar 1100 and it only had 1000 miles on it. there is a sh!tload of aftermarket for it. its one of the most popular middleweight metric cruisers around. it pulls a buck 20 on flat road, tears up my friends road kings, fat boys, dynas, etc. comfy bike too, go test ride one, you won't regret it but if you must buy a honda... go right ahead.. you can't really go wrong with any of the jap bikes.

I owned a shadow 1100 and I know quite a few people who have owned the 750's they are really dependable bikes. Very low maintenance. I have never heard anything bad about them.

the honda dirtbike i ride is very reliable, even after 15 years, much more so than my friends 5 year old suzuki. same with my brothers honda accord. honda products seem to be very reliable.

My friend had a lot of problems with his busa. they wouldnt warranty when the second gear went out. they said it was due to him upshifting and downshifting without the clutch.... well no sh!t thats what you're supposed to do on those bikes. He said it also had a problem with overheating.

I have my sites set on a ZX10 if i ever decide to get out of cruisers and back in to sport riding.

Basically its hard to go wrong with any of the "big 4" (now big 3) japanese bikes.
