Hey guys, I've decided to buy crane cams xr3000 fireball electronic ignition conversion kit. Part number 3000-231. Its a complete kit to make the conversion minus the coil. They also make the less expensive xr700, part number 700-231. Anyways, I wanted to see if anyone is interested in me doing a write up or something since I found out there really isn't much information on doing something like this other then the stock electronic ignition. I did a good amount of research, so I can answer most questions about this.

Just wanted to give an update and say that I did buy the kit and I'm now just waiting for this guy to ship it to me which seems like forever. So the write up won't be done for awhile. I think I also found a performane cap and rotor which I didn't think I would be able to find for this motor. But that will all be included in the write up :) .

Ok, well last night I came home from work and found my package in the mail and it was the conversion kit. So I decided, since I have no patience, to install the kit.

Long story short I got it installed but at the cost of ruining my distributor. I cracked a piece of the distributor housing trying to get a stripped screw out. Which I later found out that I didn't have to remove. So I am now driving the truck with a hole in the side of distributor.

I am going to find another distributor and do the write up of that. I will be taking pictures of the whole thing step by step when I get the next distributor and reinstall the kit into that one.

When I installed it last night I even had my camera with me but I was so pissed off that I couldn't get the screw out that I forgot to take any pictures during disassembly/smashing the distributor with a hammer. The screw was made of some kind of strong steel and the housing is cheap cast aluminum WTF :x. I couldn't even drill the screw out it was that strong.

Sorry I like to ramble on. I'll explain it better when I take pictures of what the hell the words above are trying to describe

Thanks to Roadshow Bob, I will have a new distributor soon and I will be doing the write up/ guide on that one. I have not had and problems with my rigged up distributor that has the xr3000 installed. I will give the kit a grade of B+ just because that it is stilled working with a hole in the side of my distributor :D .
