"It ain't really safe to do anything with drag cars on a city street," said 19-year-old Garett Moore, who said he was about 15 feet away from the wreck, but was uninjured. "They shouldn't have done it."

A blown and injected funny car doing a burnout for exibition in front of a crowd with no wall is asking for it. It was only a matter of time. :(

Anytime someone thinks they have control of something that is out of control is dangerous.

No offense, but I really don't see what this has to do with "street racing". This sounds more like an accident waiting to happen.

Sounds like a burnout competetion that went wrong. The driver should have known not to go fast, and he should have known to pull out of it once he passed first gear. Too many faults to count on that one.

The news here made it sound like he was showing off and that the throttle might have stuck on him. Pending investigation...blah blah blah

Ive never understood why people want to try and stand 3ft from a car that is going so fast.

Ive seen them in Mexico and some on tv in other countries where they stand on the side of the road during a ralley race....The mexicans will slap the truck, buggy or car as it passes by.

Looks like he went WAY too fast for the conditions, and then just lost it and couldn't straighten it back out in time. I don't know about, "throttle stuck".

Well, i'm not defending the guy, but he is an experienced Pro mod driver. I didnt see him get out of it, as he has to have pretty fair reflexes to have kept the car off the wall at tracks, I think he could have got out of it before he crashed. So the throttle could have stuck. Just my .02.

as a matter of fact I was just out running early on july 4th. my only loss of the night was to a crazy bastard on a Yamaha R1. he got out of it at 130ish because he knew i was reeling him in. he refused to go heads up, would only go from 80mph roll on.

btw wasnt that a blown alchy pro mod doing a burnout during a parade?!?! nobody got killed at the street races the other night.

I have to go back to court on Tues as a witness for that freeway street race that ended up as a fatality. I can't stand street racers. That damn accident happened 20 yards in front of me.

I believe it was mechanical failure . I will stick with this until proven wrong . I can't see him going that fast for a burnout . Maybe blip it roll down a bit , blip it again , but not mash it and never lift .

I know the feeling.

Years ago, I drove a wrecker and had to roll up on a lot of wrecks from stupid people street racing, and occasionaly I had to testify in court or give a sworn statement about what gory mess that was left of everyone that I saw.

Now I live at a busy intersection in a nice residential area with a hard-to-see stop sign where a lot of street racers like to drive like freakin' idiots.

So far, in the last 5 years, me and my wife have had help to stop one person from bleeding to death, administer emergency first aid to four people that were seriously injured, we've had one car wind up on it's side in our front lawn, and we've seen so many fender benders - we've both lost count.

Everyone in the neighborhood is trying to get the city to put in a traffic circle because no one thinks a traffic light will do much good.

Hey luvsadrag, long time no talk. Where are you going out and running these days or are you still? I just decided to put the registration back on the car and a set of drag radials and I want to take it out on the streets some but dont have a clue where to go anymore.

I've been busy with a work project so i havent been around much. Unfortunately that means not much time for the LUV either:(
We hang out at several spots around town during the week. check ur PM for locations and time/date

you know how street racing goes down around here, we dont do it through neighborhoods and busy streets, just in the out of the way business parks and desolate streets. so...come on out and hang out! Im usually up there in 1 of 3 cars, a silver Z06 or sometimes a black Z06, or a nasty red C4 convertible (you cant miss this car) and there is another guy that hangs out with us in some 750hp late model Trans Am.

Last night was kind of slow. my only highlight of the night was running down a CBR 600 a couple of times from an 80mph roll. Things should pick up as summer warms up.

the Silver one is mine. its got a small cam, cat back borlas and a small shot that I really don't use too much. The black Z has cat back Borlas but is otherwise stock. That and the Red Convertible belongs to the guy that used to run the 70's Trans Am a few years ago. He just put a new 421 motor into the convertible and we went out to do some test hits on both stages last night. from what i hear it put a hurtin' on the 750hp Trans Am already.
