Would a 50 amp Alternator fit in the place of a 35 amp one cus I know the 50 amp was for the AC Luvs so would the same belt from a 35 amp Luv fit on to a 50 amp one?

I am pretty sure it will, but let someone with more knowledge confirm this.

I have a 78 luv and I bought a mid 80 isuzu pickup alternator that puts out 50 amps and installed it in place of the 35 amp. It will work with the mounting bracket. The plug on the wiring harness will plug straight into the alt. but it is to short so you have to add about 4-5 inches of wire plus you need to run a new heavyer gauge wire from the battery to the alt. I went to auto store and bought a 4 gauge groun wire 40 inches long to replace the 12 gauge wire with. It already had ring ends on it. But I left the oringinal wire in place just if I need it. I just taped it off.

I didn't notice a difference between my 78 non a/c and my 80 a/c. But I never thought about it.
I guess I'll have to go open the hoods and compare.

yes... me and my son have done this. I have the power windows and antenna and seats, my son has the power seats and tons of stereo equ and the work great with the extra draw. my sons amp for the stereo would cut in and out and sometime not turn on until we changed to the higher amp alternator

Yes...it will work but just be aware if your old voltage regulator isn't in good shape...it might get toasted.

The alternators are generally both the same price new...so if you replace the fuseable links and ground wires with heavier guage wire/fuses like someone already posted and you have a good strong voltage regulator...it is another great way to improve your charging/electrical system because the step up from 35 to 50 amps is a huge improvement.

While you are at it...why not track down all of the grounds on your truck and clean them too...it really helps make those annoying electrical glitches go away. I always do that plus I always clean the contacts in the fuse box really well and check all of the wiring for potential problems too when I first get a new Luv...or any old vehicle.

And I have found some real wild and wondrous "creative electrical engineering" done to the wiring on some of them...lol

On the truck I had with AC, the primary difference I noticed between the AC and non-AC alt was that the pulley was a bit smaller. Physically they interchange perfectly though, the pulley size difference is completely within the adjustment range of the belt.

GM style aftermarket one. Some are small in size but still use the GM type mounts. AMP range almost to the moon. The Stock engine might not pull the BIG one 8)

You must have looked at my son's LUV! What these people (previous owners) were thinking or smoking, I have no idea!

Nope...but I have seen some real wild and crazy stuff over the years.

Like wiring that is made up of a bunch of little pieces of different guages, sizes, and colors strung together all over the truck, bare wires tucked up near the frame, wires taped with scotch tape, masking tape, wrapped up in plastic wrap, tied up in plastic or paper bags, hanging on the exhaust, or rubbing on the drive-line...you name it.

It seems some people just can't grasp what soldering, shrink-wrap, good quality electrial tape, zip-ties, or flexible wiring covering is for at all.

And man do I ever hate unwrapping old greasy, gooey, dried -up, and slimey electrical tape to find out what lovely little surprises they left for me.

That nasty sticky stuff just gets all over everything...lol

Check, check, check ... all of the above on one truck!

Add in some mystery wires hanging loose with exposed ends and connectors.

Oh, and the fuseblock is MIA. 8O
