Just an FYI, the clutch pedal bracket (the part the clutch and brake pedals hang from, and the part that breaks where the clutch pedal hooks on) can be pulled out through the hole in the dash where the gauge cluster sits. Its not easy, but it beats pulling the whole steering shaft, which is the other option. The guages are held in by three wingnuts, one on the right and two on the left side. Pulling it would at least get you more light and visibility of the clutch pedal assembly. There are a couple of old threads here about fixing the clutch bracket, if you need more info on that see what you can find with the search.

If someone is looking to pull a Mikado three spoke steering wheel, the center cap pops out. Gently pry with a flat screwdriver right at the bottom edge (centered on the middle spoke of the wheel). Go in between the rubber main part of the wheel and the metal ring, bottom center. There is a notch bottom center in the cover you are trying to pry out. Even if you miss the notch it is still not hard to remove without damaging it. Once that is out, the rest is pretty much the same. A puller does work wonders though.
