I remember a while back that California banned the use of charcoal. Is this still in effect or did they repeal this?

Sounds like some dumb ass law we would have. If it is still in effect I doubt it is enforced. I am sure that law was just a feather in the cap of some tree hugger politician to get some tree hugger votes.

We can buy it at the store, it must be ok to use. What they did away with about 5 or 10 years ago was the lighter fluid. The stuff we get now is more environment friendly. Also they have the charcoal that doesn't need fluid.

Charcoal takes too long, I just bought a solaire infared grill, cooks a 1 inch steak in 10-12 min. Tases great. Cooks at over 1,000 deg. Best steak, burgers ever had. Just my 2 cents...

I remember some study out a few years ago talking about how much polution comes from lighter fluid when starting a BBQ. this study talked about how much polution goes up during summer months and totally spikes on days like 4th of July... yeah yeah whatever. I heard some wackos were trying to get it ban but didnt think they were successful. What i do is take a tin can and fill it with gasoline or lighter fluid. then i soak about 6 bricketts in it until they are fully saturated. I put those 6 at the bottom of the BBQ, install the wire grille above and then put the rest of the coals on top of that so they are sitting suspended about 5 inches above the 6 soaked ones. I light the 6 and let the flames from those start the bricketts directly above them. saves me a lot in lighter fluid and works every time. I still throw the rib eyes on the Kingsfords all the time. its still available everywhere. as F'd up as laws are here in CA i dont think they will ever get away with banning charcoal... thats practically communist.

No charcoal? Isnt the right to use charcoal in the constitution somewhere? If it isnt it should be damn it!!
