I just bought a very clean and stock 1978 LUV truck with only112,000 original miles, and want to detail the engine compartment as close to original as possible. Does anyone know where I can buy the correct shade of grey that the air cleaner housing is painted? spray can would be desirable.

Thanks!

Use yer eyeballs. If you want, take it in the store and match it to a cap on a can of paint. I painted mine yellow. I used high-temp paint just cuz that's what I had. A coat of clear would be nice too, which I also had.

Welcome Bluesdude. all my stock cleaners were the light shade of gray you were talking about. I have good luck with the Rustoleum products. they have a regular grade and a professional grade. Areosol and brush on cans. Lowes and home depot stock both of them. I bet you can find something close. I found a light blue that is almost a perfect match for the stock chevy blue.
good luck.

Hey gs, is that almost perfect match to the stock blue perhaps the Rustoleum Harbor Blue? I was going to just touch up some spots so I bought a can a couple years ago because it looked very similar to the stock blue. I tried it out and it actually was a little cleaner and brighter than the old original paint that was on the truck, but I bet when the truck was new the Harbor Blue would match pretty good. I decided to just work on painting that truck black, so I never did many touch ups.

You guys air cleaners were blue??? Mine was grey but sorry I can't help you Bluesdude (welcome by the way) as I ditched my 4 cylinder about 15 years ago. I would have no idea to find the actual color code used on it for restoration purposes.
