Hey im trying to rebuild my carb and the guys at NAPA wanted to know the carb number on the side of the carb. So I went and found the number. 8942137160 is what I found when I gave the number to the guy he said it didnt match anythin in the system. Its a 78 Standard LUV. What carb came in these things Hitachi? and does anyone know why this number is all messed up?

By the way like the site. Im 30 and this is my second LUV First one was at 16 didnt know crap about cars then though.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks guys the carb thats in my truck tight now is a DCH-340. I rebuilt it and it still didn't fix the problem. So i looked around to try and find a new one and found one at national carbs .com (cant post the url yet) the guy there told me that it supposed to be the DCP-340. I think someone just installed a newer one on my truck don't think its that big of a deal but hopefully the new one fixs my problems.

What kind of problem are you having???? I just pulled the carb off mine yesterday evening, got a rebuild kit from Advance Auto,,,Mine just started idleling like crap, runs great going down the road, just will not idle, misses real bad at idle,,,also I noticed when I pulled the carb off there is alot of oil in the intake,,,Is this normal, I wouldn't think so, suggestions are greatly welcome....OX let me know what's going on with yours also....

Not sure exactly......... Idles great runs good until 4th gear around 55mph, then it starts to cut out like its starving for gas. Pull over let it sit for a second and usually will recover for a while.

Ive replaced; Fuel Filter Fuel pump, coil, plugs, plug wires, distributor, Distrib Cap, points, got the timing right and nothings worked so far. So I figured got spark and started on the carb. I did a rebuild kit on it it ran for a day then went back to the OG problem. SO im going to get a new carb.

Wished I could afford a Weber....Sounds to me like your float is set too low or sticking in the bowl.....

I got mine rebuilt this past weekend,,,,I think I have the primary main and secondary main jets backwards,,,It's getting way too much fuel and the idle mixture screw does nothing....I had the jets set aside the way they came out but my little boy was playing around the bench later on and scattered everything together....These were the only two I wasn;t sure about so I put the jet with the biggest hole in the primary and smaller one in the secondary,,,, I'm gonna try to pull it back off this evening, if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!!!!

That was the problem, I looked it up in the Haynes manual also and it shows the jet sizes for entire carb.....Now I have to take down the road and blow all that carbon out from the rich mixture !!!
