Took my tranny pan off today. Looks horrible in the bottom. All kinds of black filmy stuff in the fluid and you can rub it off the bottom of the pan. The filter is covered too on the under side toward the pan, Not sure if I am gonna pull it or just put a new pan gasket and filter in and see what happens. It wasn't shifting quite right anyway.
Thinking about pulling the motor and tranny and either cleaning up the motor compartment and painting it and go ahead and swap in a 700 r 4.
Oh well so much for driving it while I get it ready to paint. Sad hing about it it was a rebuilt tranny with very few miles.

is it a th350? if it is try and find a 2004r instead of a 700r4. the 2004r is the same length as the th350, so you woudlnt have to change your driveline. the 2004r also has a better overdrive than the 700.

just some food for though.

Yes 350. Well I did what I didn't want to do but I refilled it and put in the new fluid. I even put in 4 qrts and she won't go in gear hardly . Reverse not at all. Do higher stall converters take more fluid than regular stalls.
Might look for a 200r4 but I allready have a 700r4 and another 350 here. Both need rebuilt though. What has a 200 r4. I have an 88 s 10 with an automatic here too still in the truck but would need a stall and shift kit.

Most of the 200R4s also had the duel bolt pattern witch makes it easier to find them. They can be built into a very stout trans and the 2.84 first gear don't hurt either

Buick Grand Nationals had the 200r4 transmission behind a very stout turbo V6, It was faster than the corvette the year they came out. 200r4 was used behing most of the 5.7 Olds diesel engine in all the cars and trucks they went into.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
