Ok I'm fed up with driving my 1989 Honda Civic hatchback to work every day and constantly getting revved on by the ricers... I mentioned in a previous post that Im kinda shopping around for a C5 Vette. The wife is on board for the C5 but stipulated NO Z06!!!!.

soooo... um...Guess what i just picked up?

I do have to say... the only way i was able to afford it is because its on salvage title (superficial damage, no frame bendage or anything) so before i can post up any good pics, it has to go to the body shop for some TLC.

Just tell her the only repair parts you could find were off a Z06.

lol. she was a little upset at me last night...

anyway... its a 2001 Z06 (so its only 385 hp, not the 405hp model), 58K miles, M12 (6-speed) with a Hurst short throw shifter, CAI kit, Borla exhaust. IMO the car is an incredible performer and 385 hp never felt so violent. it will almost spin the tires rolling on in 3rd. I was going to put the jug to it but it barely wants to put the stock hp to the ground so it would be pretty useless until i got some bigger tires/wheels under it.

I'll get some pics on here as soon as i upload them to photobucket. it looks bad but its not really. All the panels including the rear quarters on the C5 are bolt-on so i can just buy the replacement panels and bolt them on myself. the only hard part will be fixing the door sill/rocker panel and of course i will have to send it out to be painted.

here we go

the car

Passenger side rear fascia crack

now for the "real damage"
Rocker panel/door sill/rear disk brake vent/rear wheel well

driverside wheel well. fiberglass is cracked.

gotta love carbon fiber trim from the factory
Image

love the emblem too

I hope to have it fixed and painted within the next 2 weeks. not sure how much time i have to spend on it myself or even to take it down to the body shop but I can't wait to drive it to work

a good condition '01 Z06 is about 30K. I got this one for 11.
what do you think?

Nice!

I'd be afraid to buy a sports car used, but sounds like the price was right and you can fix anything it needs.

Did they say how the damage happend?

I always loved that body style.

I think they screwed up the look on the new ones. Not surprising though, I think Chevy's goal these days is to make the ugliest cars on the road.

I was hesitant at first but i spent nearly 2 hours looking the car over making sure there was no sign of frame damage. I even borrowed a floor jack and some stands from a business next door and got under it. Then i took it for a test drive and although the alignment is off a tad bit, i was able to take my hands off the wheel at 110mph and it drove very straight. After i was completely satisfied it was just superficial damage, I shelled out the cash.

I didnt like the C6 at first but it started to grow on me. the rear end of the car looks too narrow. it lost the low wide look that the C5 has. The LS2/ LS7 motor makes up for all of that though. I hear they are picking up 101 hp from a cam swap only on the LS7. 350CFM factory CNC ported heads... Hell, i just paid 1200 to have my Protopline heads hogged out and they barely make that number.

Chevy has been doing that for a long time but they eventually grow on you. remember the Caprice and Caprice wagon? everybody hated that car... the new Chevy Silverado front end? blah but thats what i said about the 2003 front end that i now love.

there are some really good deals out there and the price of the C5's are coming down. a clean title 97-98 goes for about 15k around here.

before i bought this one i was about to drive to LA to look at 2 salvage title C5's. one was a 1998 and the other was 2002. both people said i wouldnt be able to find anything wrong that would indicate it was on salvage title (but they dont know me). they both desribed the cars as either "excellent" or "pristine" condition. they were asking for $8,999 and $9,999!!! I was ready to drive up on Saturday but found the Z06 on Friday evening.

btw a friend of mine set me up against a Dodge Dakota RT 5.9 super wazoo supposed 300hp to the rear wheels dealio...

I left that truck about 10-12 cars back.... twice.

$100 in my pocket...cha ching.

it should be a nice car once it is fixed up with the damages fixed and new paint....Its really pretty crazy with wha people do to corvettes.....I have seen some really rough vetted come into work and just shake my head. Now, even if it is "only" 385 HP it will still fly. If you want to spend abut 1000-1500 dollars under the hood, alot more horspower is attainable easy.
