Hi guys, I'm new around here (the website as well as North Carolina). I just picked up an 80 luv longbed and Ive got a laundry list of things I want to do with it beginning with the obligatory small block/auto trans upgrade. The problem is that here in NC even though I dont have to have the truck smogged, it does have to pass a visual inspection, I assume that it would mean that I would have to have all the equipment that the stock engine has (smog pump, egr, pcv etc....) are any of you guys in or around NC and run into this problem. I was initially thinking of a TPI 350 and a 700r4, but now Im thinking Im going to have to go to the boneyard and grab a mid 80's v8 and steal all the emissions stuff off of it to let it fly. Id like to be able to find a definitive answer before I sink all that time and money into the swap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Darrell

Go to where these inspections are done and talk to them. Tell them what you want to do and ask them what you need to do. The motor vehicle department should be able to help also. Don't go by hearsay. Get your info from the horses mouth so you know for sure.

That should be just a safety insp., I think, lights, good exhaust sys, good ball jnts, that's what it is. But i would just talk to the guys at your local station.

BTW, where abouts are you in NC?
