Looks like a pretty solid truck, and the price was certainly right. The cylinder walls look ok, and the dings in the pistons don't look too bad from the pics. I bet it will fire up if you get a good head on it, and get the timing right. Just assume that everything that is clean, new, or looks like it was worked on is completely screwed up. It looks like it had a prior owner with some mechanical issues. Could be the timing chain broke and they just replaced it without pulling the head, but its probably more likely the prior owner just worked on it until they broke it too badly to be brought back.

well i got it runnin kinda with the help of lee and some other friends.

the stock carb that came on the truck is a POS. leaks like a sumbitch, so im gonna try lees stock carb from his truck and see if ittl work better. it should, since its was a new re manufactured one.

there is one thing thats bothering me though. when its runnin it has a a pop from the exhaust. what does this mean? im thinkin that the rockers might be a little tight.

anyways, here a pic of what it looks like as of now...

Most Likely Either Flooding, Vacuum Leaks, The Timming Is A Little Retarded, or Maybe Plugs?

I'd Check The Carb 1st You Said It Leaked Like Crazy

Glad To Hear It Runs Not Bad, A Free Truck That Runs.....Who Can Complain?

With the leaks you describe in the carb, I'd bet that is where your pop is coming from. You could have excess gas running in the carb, a vac leak around or in the carb, all sorts of crap could be going wrong.

yep thats right!! we drove it around the block a couple times, and then a couple times more a few hours ago.

it still has a small pop, but it only when i give it some throttle real fast. this thing runs sooo smooth. even with the stock piece of shit hitachi on it.

there is alot more work to do to this thing though. ive got a feeling that im gonna be dropping the tank to clean it out. theres a fair amount of shit in the tank, i think. i bought a bunch of fuel filters, so i hope that runnin a few tanks of gas though it will clear that up.

then the brakes feel like they need bled, the clutch need adjusted, and there might be a small wiring problem with the running lights and turns signals. im betting its just a bad ground.

so, im gonna get as many of the mights on the thing workin as i can, and then im gonna go get this thing registered!

Well I Commend You On Your Great Work. Knew Ya You'd Get It Running.

So It Pops When You Give It Gas?

Or When You Give It Gas And Let Off?

I Noticed You Have A New Cap n Wires on It Maybe The Timming Is Slightly Off? Need To Advance It A Little? Not Really Sure.... Well It Great To Hear You Enjoy Your New Truck And Finnally Got To Take It For A Test Drive.

i still need to do some small stuff to it like adjusting the clutch and bleeding the brakes. im gonna be parking the pup for the winter. i noticed that it has a small knock, so i dont wanna run it alot more so i can keep the bottom end together. ill prolly rob the weber off it to put of the luv. the hitachi isnt cuttin it.
