I have a 1979 LUV with the 1.8 4 banger. The carb is broken, but I dont know which one to get. Summit has two, but one is more expensive, but I cant tell the difference. Can anyone tell me what it is? Both say two barrel, but isnt this engine a 4 barrel? I dont have the truck to look at right now, but I was positive that it was. Also could I install the Intake manifold on the last link?

There isn't much info on those to be able to tell which is which, but I'd guess that the difference is one is for California emissions trucks and the other is for Federal. I'd call/email summit and ask them to tell you want the difference is between the part numbers.

You might also check http://www.rockauto.com and see what their price is on a carb. Better yet, go to http://www.carbs.net and order a Weber carb instead of a replacement Hitachi. You'll be much more pleased with the results (better power and mileage), but the Weber might cause issues for you if you have to get the truck smog tested.

Watch getting any holley based weber. The throttle works in reverse for the chevy luv carb setup.

For the stock motor the best to get would be a 32/36 DGEV (comes with electric choke, that you can hook the stock wiring harness up to) if you have your motor hoped up a little you may want to spring for the 38/38

Well, I plan to stick headers and an flowmaster exhaust system, and that offenhausen intake, so should I get the 38/38 or is that not souped up enough?

Header and an Offy intake would benifit from a 38/38 over a 32/36. Better yet would be to get a cam to go with that setup, Delta Cams will do a regrind cam with more lift/duration for pretty reasonable. Their url is http://www.deltacam.com if you want more info from them.

what 800 said, if your planning on the Offy and a header, I'd say get a Delta cam to go along with them and then get the 38/38 DGEV, that should wake the little motor up a LOT  I know mine got a wake up just adding the Weber. let us know how it goes

Just a little note, if you do get the offy intake, you will have to get a Weber, as the carb mount on the offy is matched to a weber and the stock hitachi won't fit. On the plus side, you won't need a base adapter for the weber like you would putting it on the stock intake. Those things are notorious for getting loose and leaking vacuum.

You might want to contact Weber directly and see about jetting for all these upgrades together. The stock LUV kit even on a 38/38 might be on the lean side. http://www.carbs.net might know, or you can look up Redline/Weber at http://www.redlineweber.com and get their opinions on a proper setup.

I definetly will think about running the 38/38 and have the cams done too. How much hp do you think I will gain, and how bad will the gas mileage be?

hp should be in the 130 range maybe more, and your mpg should accually improve(this is of course if you can keep your foot out of the secondary on the Weber   )

130ish should be about right, probably on the more side. I've always heard that mileage with a 38/38 weber will be no better than stock, but usually not worse. A 32/36 is easy to get a gain in mileage from, but as Rezkid said, it all depends on how heavy your right foot gets.

One other note, on the offy intake, you might want to get the order in for that soon if you are going to do it. I've heard there is a large lead time for getting those in through Summit.

technically those items will not pass the visual on smog as they have no EO or CARB numbers as far as I know, but it all depends on the smog tech and what he "overlooks" technically my electronic ignition is not smog legal but it passed just peachy... :D

Yeah you probably will have problems passing smog with all that. I'd bet it would pass the sniff, with the possible exception of NO2 emissions (most LUV headers lack an EGR port, which would drive up NO2). The problem is the inspection. It would help to get an air cleaner adapter for the Weber so you could use the stock air cleaner. That would also help a lot on the noise factor, webers tend to make a fair bit more noise with the small air filter that comes with the kit.

Well, I will just figure that out when the time comes. My gf's dad knows a smog shop guy and he will help me pass. I bought the Offy Intake last night since it will take so long to get here. I am looking for a site to buy the 38/38 from, but I cant find one. Do you have a link to the specific page where it is? What about if I get the intake the 38 weber and the cams, would that pass?

try these sites for the 38/38
http://www.redlineweber.com
http://www.carbs.net

As far as passing smog with the intake, cam, and weber if you have everything in turn and running good then it should have no prob passing smog(as far as the numbers go that is)

For the EGR bung, you can get a header from Calmini for a 2.3L or 2.6L motor and it will have the EGR port. Actually, I think you need the 2.3L or early 2.6L for it to have the right style of connection for the LUVs metal EGR tube that goes across the back of the motor to the intake. The only down side is that the ports on the 2.3/2.6 are round vs the LUV 1.8's squarish ports, but it will bolt up and fit. They also have a nice shiny ceramic coating on it to make it last a long time too.

I actually prefer the calmini to the pacesetter header because the Calmini is a tri-Y setup instead of 4 into 1, which in theory should help low end torque numbers. I imagine the round port/square head thing will have a slight impact on flow, but its nothing compared to the stock exhaust manifold.

Alright, this might sound like a stupid question, but is the 1.8 ltr the same as the 1800?
