Sounds like you might need to find a new- used carb. for that thing.

Chavy, I have the old carb off my 80, it was rebuilt about a year ago and has less than 3000mi on it. was in perfect working order when I yanked it off in May to make room for the Weber, I could let you have it for a "small" fee, PM me if your interested, oh and welcome back

It's just that I don't know how Chavy. If I needed to adj. my own, I would read my book and try what it says and I would probably mess it all up anyway. So I can't help you if I don't know what to tell you.

First off, no need to get pissy

Second off, if no one here has posted on it, it could be that they don't know. What I would do if I were you is I would break out my shop manual (you do have a shop manual I hope) and go strait to the section on carbs and see if what your looking for is there, yet another option would be to ditch the electric choke setup and just put on a cable opperated choke, your local autoparts store should have the kit for $10-20. And then there's also a thrird option...Ditch the POS Hitachi and find your self a Weber, thats what I did and it has been well worth it.

Chavy, no one has replied to tell you how to adjust your card because each of theses old stock carbs are worn and take different adjustments to make it right. Very few have had any luck getting them right, so the best advice is to replace it with a weber. Most members like to help others but when another comes on here with the attitude that "some one owes them help" it just wont happen. Don't burn your bridges, this is the best site for chevy luv help.

the best help has been mentioned ..... look at the wrecking yards for a weber (i can jet them here as cores when they have one for $25) get a rebuild kit for $25 and you have the best carb setup for $50 and 30 minuets time

PS i haven't fixed my choke on my stock carb yet either . moved and fiddled with on day and was never right again.....lessen learned never mess with the choke unless going manuel

Chavy is in Cal. and has to deal with smog inspections every other year. Same as me.

Chavy, try adjusting the choke to all the way open so it's basically not doing anything and see what happens. That's how I have my 80 right now and so cal in the summer , It has an attidude in the morning and then it runs fine in about 2 blocks down the street.

chavy.. what rondog means is he turned the choke cover. what you do is loosen the 3 screws around the plastic cover and turn it towards you as you stand on the passenger side of your truck. there are little tic marks on the carb and a single line on the cover and to open it al the way up, the line on the cover should line up with the last tic mark on the carb. it will make it a bit harder to start in the morning, but once it warms up you should be fine. once you get it running, you can slowly tweak the choke back towards closed until you are happy with it.
