Maybe just a very thin coat on the pan only, to act as a glue to hold the gasket in place untill bolted on. That would be my guess. :?

I use gasketcinch, silicon can disslodge and clog up the filter or get into the valve body.

I agree... Silicon or RTV as it is a bad idea, Felpro makes a very nice tranny pan gasket, I have used them on all of my transmissions and have never had a problem with leaks, Dry and Tight is the best answer.

i just put a new trns in my truck and iv never used any silicone ive always just use the gasket and never had a leak the normal reason they leak is because people put them on to tight and crack the gasket

most of the time I dont use anything at all. On occasion I will sometimes use a spot of gasgacinch on the 4 corners if im having a problem keeping it in place but if properly tightened down u shouldnt have to rely on it for sealing ur pan. the gasket by itself should do just fine.

BTW if you do use sealer or cinch then u will spend like 45 min scraping the gasket off the pan the next time u take the pan off.
