well the pup is finally talkin back at me. i had another water pump go out and ive got a really bad rod knock. i knew the water pump was gonna go out, but the knock is a pretty unexpected deal. the motor was rebuilt about 14000 miles ago by the NAPA machinist, but i guess things can go bad. im also not gonna deny that ive been pretty hard on this motor though. 5 grand in 1st 2nd and 3rd cant be too good for a motor.

but i just got paid again today, and i have 240bux in the bank, so im gonna go pick up that injected g200 at my work. im gonna sell the injection though. (anyone thats wants it PM me and we can chat)

im gonna buy the motor tommorow, so ill prolly swap the motors this week, so ill have to drive the big ol gas hog GMC again, but the impulse motor has low miles, so itll be worth it.

ill get some pics of the motor tommrow after i get it.

If it has a waranty (and the engine should) demand that they waranty it. Theres no reason one of these engines should start knocking by running it up to even 6000rpm. Ive had mine up to 8K and i run mine up to 5000 every time i get onto the highway in 1st-3rd, and its fine. That is error on the part of who ever put that engine together.

well this motor never had a warrenty to begin with since the truck was a delivery rig for the NAPA that the motor was rebuilt at. the only reason i have the pup now is because the NAPA donated it to my old high school and i bought it off the auto teacher for 100bux. so im not really disappointed that its needing some work.

im still really not lookin forward to the work i have to do this week. im tired of pullin motors. im just straight up tired of workin on stuff. but i gotta do what i gotta do. :?

why not go ahead and do a v6 or v8 swap you could do a 4.3 v6 and have close to 200 hp and still get 20 mpg of course if your budget permits. i know first hand about workin on a small budget.

well im gonna start tearin the pup apart tommorow. whos gonna help me? lol

but anyways, i gotta get the g180 out. im gonna use the g180 block for my builder though. the only thing wrong with it is the crank and the one rod, so im gonna put a new crank and a set of rods and pistons and stuff in the block. im gonna have the block gone though also. but thats way down the road.

ill be sure to take some pics of the transplant!

well i finally tore into in on wednesday night after it really started knockin bad. i did everything except pull the motor on wednesday, and then thurday, i pulled the motor, got the tranny off the motor, and the flywheel too.

i found out a really weird thing about the motor that was in the pup. when i pulled the head to use a coulple head bolts to pull from, i noticed the pistons were really sloppy in the cylinders. i can move the pistons around in their holes quite a bit. my guess is, that the block was bore over and then had the stock pistons put back in. i mean these things are loose. cylinders still look good tough. theres still some crosshatching left and theres no ridge at the top of the cylinder. im gonna see how bad the bottom end is when i get the truck back runnin again. if the block is still good ill use that for my buildup motor.

i should have the flywheel and tranny on the new motor tommorow. im havin some problems with the switch from FI to carb, like the bolts and all that, but its goin well. one thing thats got me stumped is the new motor used to have an auto tranny on it, so its got this weird pilot guide deal and spacer on the crank. i can get this pilot guide deal to come out of the crank either. i need to get that out so i can put my new pilot bearing in it. so ive gotta mess with that some more.

other than that stuff, its goin pretty alright. itd be nice to have some help with this stuff, but everyone always has somethin other to do. you nkow how it goes. i should have the new motor in tommorow at least. id like to get it runnin if i can.

ill get back to ya tommorow with some more updates.

i found that you can take the engine/tranny combo out at the same time with the exhaust manifold still on if you take the block mount off the motor on the driver side. the motor slid right out. i always forget about the shifter though.

the old "clunker"

the new "screamer!"

ill get some more pics as the motor goes back in and all that.

Why would you want to work on a greasy mess? Wouldn't you like to have clean tools and see what you are doing?
