Ohhhhhhhhhhh dude.....

Believe it or not, I've had this happen to me and it SUCKS!

On mine I took the stuff off the front of the truck so I could get to the hood hinges. Then I removed the hood hinges. Then I had someone hold it up enough for me so I could reach under it with a looooong extension, a flashlight, and a 10mm socket, and remove the 4 bolts holding the lock to the firewall.

Luckily, it didn't damage the hood, but it tweaked the lock enough that I had to get another one. This happened back when mine was still a 4cyl. I don't think I would be able to get in there now with the V8.

Either way, it's a pain in the ass.

It happened to me a long time ago and i did the same thing as Ben but i somehow was able to unlatch to hood. I think i just yanked on the cable itself and pulled the outer casing loose and got ahold of the inner cable and gave it a tug. Then i cut the outer casing shorter and clamped a pair of vice grips on the exposed cable end. It worked for over 10 years but i recently repaired it correctly.

If you have really long arms you might reach the latch from below, or you might have some luck getting at the cable from under the truck. Its a 'stretch' but it might work. ;)

I had to replace the cable assy on my truck and i had to install new ends on them. The cable ends were a little bigger than the original so i tried to modify the holes for the cable ends in the latch assy and in the release lever. Drilling the release lever wasn't a problem but the latch assy was so tough that i wore out 3 drill bits and i didn't even phase it! I modified the cable end to fit the latch assy. Keep this in mind if you have to rework your cable.
