Im not really sure what to do about the lines that go to and from the trans to the cooler. The lines that were on my truck when I got it was copper tubing like some thing you would run to the swamp cooler in your shop. Whats the best to use and what kind of fittings are needed. Im guessing its a flare or a farrel type set up but I havent had time to undo the old fittings in the trans to look.

Gets some new ones from Kragens or somewhere like that. Depending on where you are gonna put your cooler, you wont need but about 5ft each of new lines. I am running my cooler , its kinda next to the back passenger wheel, and it is mounted to the frame. Never have had any trani cooling issues.

my cooler is up behind the grill right now but Im thinking about moving it if my electric fans have to go in front of the radiator. Im not real familar with automatics all my race cars all had manuals. So if I go to Kragen all I have to do is ask for transmission line?

Ya, you should just beable to ask for th350 lines. Your gonna need two of course. They come with fittings on both ends, so depending on your cooler, you might have to hack off the ends to the cooler, and run a little piece of hose. Just some f.y.i, Dennis's truck had the cooler under the bed, and had its own little electric fan, but I am not sure if a fan is necessary. Just put it somewhere it will get a little breeze should be good. Keep in mind that the inlet and outlet I believe have diffrent size fittings, I think :? So figure what goes to what before you cut any lines!

Actualy the holes in a TH350 case are 3/8" pipe if im not mistaken, the fittings are whatever you put in them. Although GM used 5/16" inverted flare brass fittings. Most us hot rodders just use -6 AN fittings all the way to the cooler, you dont run a big wild converter im guessing Gabe so put the cooler where it fits best. If you go to a real loose converter you want some air to cool the trans fyi

Just pull one hose off and hook the other one straight to that fitting.

5/16 id sounds about right. I have mine run back and across the bed to the drivers side next to where the spare used to be.

Just a word of warning...

I'm not 100% sure what the cooler lines are, but I will warn you to be careful, whatever you do.

I'm no expert, but the stock lines seem to have some kind of double inverted flare end. I think they are 5/16" like everyone has said.

I wanted to use -AN lines on my TH400, and there were some kind of adapter in my trans to go to the inverted flare. I assume they all have this... Anyway, I took the adapters out and put a standard pipe thread in the trans hole. The threads matched up exactly and I thought I was good to go. Just as the pipe to -AN adapter started to get tight in the trans, it cracked the side of the transmission case!

The events that followed were not pretty.

I was noticing the other day after I pulled my motor the intake was cracked where the temp sensor was screwed in. I think it has something to do with over tightening anything with pipe threads since most pipe fittings have tapered threads then when the cast iron or aluminum heats up and expands and creates cracks.

If you are paranoid (like me!) just use some permatex pipe dope stuff and dont crank down on the fittings, just snug em up good so they dont leak, exactly how tight that is takes some trial and error.. I make sure they are not going to vibrate out or leak.. my water temp unit still leaks on my current motor lol

LOL I agree with you on the liquid pipe dope stuff and snugging things I noticed when I pulled my temp sender out the threads were bottomed out like someone used a 36'' pipe wrench to put it in. I didnt notice the JB weld until a few days later it was like it was color matched to the manifold. speaking of manifolds when are you going to give up those headers?

My point was that I didn't even really begin to tighten down on the fittings and it cracked the case. Apparenly it's some kind of straight thread behind those adapters.

As pourus as these tranny cases can be, I wonder if it just had a tiny crack to begin with?

Oh and on those headers, I was really hoping to keep them for my truck, just cause they are so hard to find these days for a decent price. I just have to get some straight plug heads they will work with, which is sort of a conflict.. but I wont bore you guys with those details. I think you would be happy with a set of shorty block huggers and some SCE/Percy copper gaskets, just retorque the bolts after the first few warm ups and you should be good.
