starting monday im full time welder for a small fab shop. http://www.steelial.com/
about 90% of the work is stainless steel TIG. which to me is a PITA to weld, but its clean. starting out at $7.00hr 40hrs a week plus overtime. i get a raise after 90 days depending on how good my work is.

the funny thing is that i just started back at my job i had before i went to Iraq LAST monday b/c i took the summer off after coming home.

just thought id share :D

Congrats!

Man I tell ya what, that sounded funny to me. I forgot Oregon has, I think the highest min wage in the nation. I think it is either $7.50/hr now or it will be in Jan. Isn't that rididulous?! But then if you were to come out here and try to buy a comparable house/land you'd go 8O

Man I need to move... :?

$7.00hr is just to start then if they like my work it goes up to anywhere between $8-$12hr.
$7.00hr 40hrs a week plus overtime is pretty good for this area. there aint anything here

today was my first day of work. i kinda thought id be the "grinder bitch" for awhile but i did get to do some TIG. im getting better at it. i asked them if they was gonna let me come back tommarow and the forman said yes :D :P

one thing about it is i gotta buy my own tools. i got a nice self darker helmet and stuff like that, but i need a good tool set. im looking for something that is got a good selection of sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers. and it has to be portable b/c i'll have to go into places to install conveyers and stuff.
i got enough crap in the garage to build a kit but i'd like to have something i can just leave at the shop so i dont have to shuttle stuff back and forth.
anyone know of such a kit? i know craftsman makes one called a "field tech" kit but it dont come with a case.

A lot of guys carry a 5 gallon bucket around. You can put a lot in it. You can get these tool aprons that are made to fit the bucket so you have pockets on the put inside as well.

Check out http://www.harborfreight.com or go to one of their stores. They have cheap tools. Most are cheap for a reason. They won't last long. But it might get you started if you need some now, until you could buy better stuff.
They could also help with tools you need but don't use all the time. You know what I mean? The stuff you use every day you want good stuff, but something you hardly ever use but do need to have around you could buy a cheap one and save money.
