As far as I know Isuzu has been making gas and diesel engines since about 1932, so the list is pretty extensive. It includes industrial, car, truck, military and agricultural engines.

You can add to that list the GMC/Chevy Duramax, it was designed by Isuzu, and it's also built by Isuzu

Yeah, this is a rather long list. You have the G180 1.8L found in US LUVs, G200 1.9L used in Isuzus and S10s in the early 80s, a G160 1.6L that I've only seen in overseas LUV/Isuzus. You have the 2.3L 4ZD1, the 2.6L 4ZE1, the 2.0L 4ZC1. Then there was a bunch of 1.6 and 1.8 sized stuff that was in front wheel drive Impulses, Geos, and etc.

I won't even get into the raft of diesels Isuzu made. I've got a generator powered by a small Isuzu diesel, and they put the same C223 diesel used in LUVs into a lot of refridgerator units for tractor trailers. Boats were another common place to find Isuzu power.

Oh and then you also need to include the V6 stuff too!!! the 6VD# series, the 3.5, second gen 3.2, 3.5 DI...yada yada yada, that doesn't even include the stuff they make for the world maket. in other words Isuzu makes/made a whole crap load of engines for various uses.

Actually Isuzu has been making diesels since 1910 if i remeber corectly. They changed thier name in the 30s and took the name of the Isuzu river in Japan. Heres a link to an Isuzu timeline...

"Actually Isuzu has been making diesels since 1910..."

Ooooppss! Sorry about that.

Isuzu Diesel trivia: I was a little late for a plane in Frankfurt and a lady friend came by to give me a ride. We jumped in her 3 or 4 year old Isuzu and slipped out on the Autobahn. She nailed it at 100 mph, not kph, and headed south. After a few minutes, looking at the speedo and fearing for her little car, I said, "Say, uh, I'm not really that late you know...."

She said, "Oh, don't worry about it. Ive been driving this thing like this since the day I got it. It's a good little car." I thought, ya, good little car, but more like incredible.

I think he was just asking about Luvs. Am I right? Or did you mean Isuzu as a whole?

I think there was only 2 different engines in the Luvs. (pre 1981).
1.8 (what you have in that 79) was from (I'm guessing here, correct me if I'm wrong, ) 1975 thru 1980. Something like that. The older eng. (1972 thru 1974?) looks very different compared to what I have in my 78 and 80.

i dont know when the change was but the early LUV engines were a wedge head and the later are hemi head. Both being 1.8L (G180). The wedge heads had the intake and exsaust on the same side and goofy dual timing chain set up. I know that 78 on at least had the hemis.
