The other day while I was in the middle of my 75 mile comute to work I had a brain fart about putting a nitrous setup of some sort on my LUV. I dont know much of anything about it all I know is too much is bad. Another thing is I will be building a new motor first so I want to know what kind things works well with the nitrous like compresstion ratio etc. The next part of my question is who makes the best setup and approximatly how much money does it cost to fill an empty bottle?

pick up some books about nitrous, or do alot of reading somewhere.
I wouldn't suggest installing nitrous until you know at least the basics of a "tune".
You can sure screw an engine up quick with a lean mix.

A basic "plate" type kit can be purchased for under $500.

Prices of a fill up on the bottle can vary....I would ask around locally for this info.

there are TONS of different ways to work nitrous into your setup.
If you plan on running the truck only on Nitrous, you need to build your engine around Nitrous. If you just plan on spraying every now and then, you can build it for NA, but still spray. I would ask your engine builder about some info on this.

If I had the time, I would look up some websites for you to read information on, but I am at work and pretty busy....d'oh!

Plan on doing alot of spark plug checks while using nitrous. You don't want to have detonation, or holes in your pistons.

hope this was helpful.

cool thanks for the info... I did a little bit of research last night and figured that a 100hp setup would be somewhere in the ball park of what I want. I want to build a motor that I can use as a daily driver if needed and then run it on the bottle every so often if I go to the strip. Anyone know of any good websites for info?

You could probably spray 100horse shot on what you have now, as long as you weren't burning alot of oil.
Oil + nitrous = ouch

Gabe your always welcome to come take a peek at my setup. I can show you how a hobbs switch will help save ya from a bad leanout, and some good ways to wire it up. And it ran me $48 to have my 10 lb bottle filled last time at franklin here in Redding.

I dont know if you know Clyde pearce (the king of big screen lol), but he is having a pot luck at his place this Sunday and everyone is invited to bring their cars over. you're welcome to drop by if you wanna see some cars. My son and I will cruise over to his 'car barn' around 1:30 or so with the nova. Otherwise give me a call sometime 276-9816

Dont know if I will be able to make it or not I have a busy day planned tommorow. If everything goes as planned my LUV might have a new motor in it. But who knows I might wake up tomorrow morning and not feel like getting greasy so we will see what happens.

Hey Gabe, do you know where I could find a decent car trailer in town for cheap? My buddy and I are trying to find one we can go in halvsies on, and im thinking I might want to throw my Nova on a trailer next season (cage+big nitrous tune) just in case, and for the upcoming LUV project..

I know of like 500 people in town that have car trailers that sit and rot and never get used and all the people that own them swear that they need them and wont sell. people that have car trailer are a different breed. I got a dumb question for you: I found a 2000 ford exploder rear end with 4.10s and the limited slip complete with rotors calipers and everything. The price is what I am concered with $550. Is it a rip off or a good deal? Sorry I cant help with the trailer I will keep my eyes open for you though.

heck yeah! car trailers...... once you have one......no reason in getting rid of it, because it doesn't eat anything, and can be good as gold when needed.

I don't know if the Explorer rear is worth that or not.....someone else may be of better use. I would think something with disc brakes would be worth that, but I may be wrong.

Ya, the only guys I know that have them, use them pretty often. Let me know if you hear of one.. And thats too high I think, try to grind them down to $450 - just cause they're only getting more available.. The guy at Hess brothers in red bluff had one out of a 91 he wanted $300 for with drums on it when I was shopping for mine. FYI

LOL I dont know but the one I saw today looked like an exact copy of the pictures of yours. It sounded good too I could hear it over my jack hammer so I had to stop for a minute like a deer in the headlights and stare as it went by.

Do you have a hangar at the airport? I thought about doing that one time and never checked into it.
