 Post subject: blown engine
PostPosted: Wed Sep 07, 2005 12:05 pm
well I just blew a connecting rod through the side of the block on a trip over labor day weekend. Luckily I have a 4X4 luv frame and drivetrain. I am going to swap the body from the blown luv to the 4X4 frame. The only problem I can see is the clutch. It was hydraulic (76 luv) and now I have to go the the cable(80 luv). Does anyone know what I have to do to make this work?

If you get the pedal bracket and clutch pedal from a cable clutch truck, you should be able to cut a hole in the right spot on the firewall and make it work. There is a sort of spacer pipe on the engine side of the firewall that the cable goes through and the adjuster nuts/washer sit against. I would think you could just fab that out of a chunk of water pipe and tack it in place. Maybe if someone could get a picture of the engine side of the firewall on a cable clutch rig it would help explain. The pedal bracket is a pain to get out, but the hydro and cable clutch brackets will interchange. The difference is that the cable clutch pedal pivot point is set lower so it pulls the cable and the hydro one is higher to push the master cylinder.

800xl is right on the money.. if i understand this correctly, daddy727 has two truck and will swap a hyd clutch body onto a cable clutch drivetrain. sounds like he'll already have the bracketry and parts required and since he has the clutch cable cab, just measure where he needs his firewall hole and drill it. should be pretty straightforward compared to a cab swap.

unfortunately I do not have the cab for the cable clutch. I need the parts to swap the clutch system in to cab to be able to use the cable style.

i guess the same thing would apply just you need to steal parts off a junker and measure for the hole from it.
