okay i admit i am blonde, please don't laugh at this question.
but, can i wax under the hood with regular wax, or does it have to be a special wax?
or is it not supposed to be done at all?
i'm asking; because i don't know if it is an okay thing to do., or is it a bad idea because it might be a fire hazard or incentive to possibly cause a fire under the hood, because the engine is there?
i am referring to waxing the actual truck frame and hood.
thanks in advance for any thoughts.
janet  :?

Welcome to the site.. In response to your question, you can use the same wax in the engine compartment. It's not a fire hazard.

If your talkin' about waxin' the wheel wells, firewall and wut-not that doesn't sound like a bad Idea, but if your actually talkin' about the underside of the hood it'd be a little too tedious.

Wax has a very high heat tollerance. I flame test chemicals at work on occasion. Remember way back when those waxes were on tv that the dudes would light something on fire on the hood after waxing it. Any wax will with stand that. Ive done it. Waxing under hood would be a great idea. Theres alot of crap that gets flung up onto it that sometimes doesnt want to come off. A good coat of wax would reduce that kinda stuff a bunch. Not a stupid question at all.

So if you were to build up a nice mudd-boggin' machine then a coat of wax (or undercoating) would be a clever idea for keeping your engine compartment clean...

I've heard that Pam cooking spray works pretty good on your wheel wells to keep the mud from sticking 8O

i'm a blonde definitely.
found that on the white enamel baked looking rims that aresol pledge cleaned the heck of it.
i'm not sure any one should try this but i didn't see any damage pledge created.
i rinse the wheels and wallah. nothing but pure shiny white rims with little
mishaped circle cut outs. (i dont know what style the rims are) i think the tires are 14's though. :smt115

What ya mean by mishaped? like ovals? or like a "eggish" hole? If they're just circular they'd be modulars (if they were that and had little fastener lookin things around the edge then they're "beadlocks")

They're spoke wheels then, but the whole pressing enter a bunch-o-times then putting some smilie at the bottom isn't exactly appealing to the mods, yeah it's cute but unessesary.

those rims on Luke's truck look to be the factory 4x4 rally rim (whatever they are called). check the brochure on the info page of this site and you should be able to see the stock setup.

yeah those are stockers, but I thought even the 2wd ones had em' too, i've seen a 2wheel with them in the backwoods (seiriously) that had them.

BTW, bob, do you know if they were producing luvs back in 1970?? Some guy I'm getting a job with said they did but the oldest they come is 72, could ya clarify?

LUV's were produced from '72 through '82. The GM switched over to the S-10.

Sorry I've been out of town,so I need to reply to the original question.

It's not a dumb question. The fact that you thought it could be a problem before you put any wax on, shows you are very smart and have common sense. I think some people would not even think that it could be a problem and just go waxing away with out a care in the world.
It's smarter to be careful. :D
