can this be done?

i need new shocks on my daily and would like to move the upper mounts apart to further stabilise the rear end. i can probably move the upper mounts easily, but i don't know where to relocate the mounts to.

the thought was if the shocks are mounted as close to the edge of the body as possible i would get less body roll. i'll be instaling a sway bar as well. hellwig's anti-sway bar for the s-10 will work great, they just take longer to mount the frame ends since the s-10 has an open channel frame and the luv is boxed in.

i just can't stand bouncing around tight corners that i should be sliding around

It can totally be done. I don't know what your skills are or the tools you have but it can be done pretty easily. I;m not sure if you're more into fourwheeling like me or street racing or whatever but one thing to be careful of is getting the right shocks for the application (lengthwise) what you'll find is if you keep the stock mounts on the axle or u-bolt plate, and move the mounts farther apart on top, you'll be closer to bottoming out your shocks if its not anywhere near bottoming out don't worry about it. but flex your rearend with a jack and check to see if at full flex it bottoms out the shock, if it does, get different shocks. as for mounting the shocks, i could prooly get a picture of what i did on my s-10 or maybe whats on my lifted LUV for ya, (i'm not sure if my LUV has the same stock mounts as yours). but what i did was took a piece of box tube about 1.5 x 1.5 and ran it the length of the frame and welded tabs to the outside of the box tube that i drilled holes into the put a bolt through for the shock. (pics will clear up anything)

box tubing was along the lines of where i was going with this...... i still need to make sure i leave enough room to mount the sway bar, which will be connected to a large chunk of square tubing that serves as a bumper beneath the roll pan i'm putting together (hooray for buddies in the sheet meatal business)

this truck is eventually going to be a v-6 street machine.....i'm wanting to road test a chassis for a few months before i start the heart transplant. i don't want to beef up the motor too much if it won't be able to handle the speed. plus i'm already a PSYCHO driver........and whipping the ass end of this truck round on 35mph corners at 60+ mph gets kind of hairy when the rear starts bouncing and swaying..... HELLO KIDS.....CAN YOU SAY SQUIRRELY?
