I am new to this forum, as I bought a truck a week ago, now i'm inthe process of restoring it. My '79 has a 1.8L diesel engine from a 1981 Imark. I am in need of a few things, and am wondering if people on this forum might have spare parts, and miht know if later model Isusz P'ups' parts might work?
I'm looking for tailights/gaskets, wiper motor, door lock tumblers, seatbelts (would like to put in three-person setup), new bench seat with headrests for three, etc.

Thanks for any help!

That sounds like quite a fun truck, have yet to see a diesel motor in a 72-80 body style. In 81 (different looking truck completely) they added a 2.2L diesel motor as an option, engine code C223. Later (85 I think) they added a turbo to the motor (C223T) and beefed up some internals a bit. Either of those might make a good upgrade for your truck, and probably would go in with only minor fuss since you are already running a diesel in it.

Tail lights are specific to 75-80 LUVs, with 75-76 having red lenses for the turn signal instead of the orange that later years used. All 75-80 tail light assemblies will interchange though. New gaskets don't exist, at least not yet. I've had good luck filling the channel in the assembly with silicone sealant, smoothing it out level, letting it set up solid, then putting the lense back on.

Door locks, I guess blacktruck has you pointed to Kragen.com but they parts they show don't look like they would exactly match stock. You could also pull a set from a junk yard donor truck, 72-80 all show the same part number in my parts book for the door locks and ignition switch. Although the books shows different parts for right and left doors, they do interchange. I recommend swapping them if you go with used as the driver's side is always more worn out than the passenger's. I believe a good locksmith could make you keys from the ignition or perhaps the door cylinders if you already have a set and are missing the key.

On the seat belts, you could find a middle belt from a different truck (Full size Chevy from the 70s comes to mind) and bolt the two parts on with the latch portion of the stock belts. There might be a new kit out there somewhere that would fit to replace the lap/shoulder belts that came stock, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a useable set at a U-Pull parts yard.

Bench seat, if you can handle a little minor fabrication you should be able to make any small truck seat fit. This is another good one to go shopping in u-pull junkyards for. Look at all the toyotas, datsun/nissan, mazdas, etc and see if you can find a seat you like. Head rests for three might be a tall order in a bench made for a small truck though, but dual head rests shouldn't be too hard to find. For brackets, Measure the spacing, then pull the brakets off the stock seat and figure out a way to bolt them to the seat you choose as your replacement. That is easier in my opinion than trying to line up and drill holes in the cab floor to match the seat, and you don't add places for water/bugs/dirt to get in the cab.

MEPR,
Hey that would be very cool! I've contacted a few junkyards, and they're more than willing to sell, but you never know how beat/broken parts are going to be, and then you have to haggle over shipping and refunds. If you've got working parts, let ke know how to contact and pay you for them.

MEPR,

Still interested in the locks and taillight assemblies. What's your email so I can contact you off-forum, and what do you want for the parts?
