Mikado basically means deluxe. Comes with some exterior badges on the sides of the bed, one on the glovebox door, a three spoke steering wheel with a fake leather finish, additional carpet/trim on interior door panels, and pin switches on the doors for the deluxe dome light. There are probably some other features I'm missing, but that covers most of the changes from the base model.

800xl: I didn't know you are in Corvallis! I thought I was the only one. We'll have to meet up sometime.

Sorry to get off topic, but...

I don't know about the chrome strip on the body line, but there were chrome strips around the windows and above the doors.

No Chrome body strips on mine.... just a "nicer" steering wheel, carpet, mikado emblems, and A/C

mine has factory AC but dont say anything about Mikado one it :?
according to the ad that i got for a 75 (thanks again steve :) ) the mikados had;
"full with seats upholstered in deluxe fabric, matching door inserts, carpeted floor and door kick panels, leather-like covered three spoke steering wheel and gearshift knob, automatic locking retractable seat belts, deluxe dome lamps with door operated switches, astray lamp, dual note horn, and Mikado nameplates on glovebox door and rear fenders"

*whistles* boy, sounds better than a lexus :lol: :wink:

and i think someone here said "mikado" is japenese for "little emperor"

I forgot about the chrome strip on the rain gutter over the door, the dual horn and the ashtray lamp. A/C is another option, at least on most of the luvs I've got or had. The 79 4x4 I drive now has A/C (non functional at the moment) but I have three or four other Mikados that didn't have A/C. The 79 has a blue covering over the inside kick panel just in front the doors too, though none of the others I've seen have it. Anyone with any tips on refitting the A/C on one of these, please let me know. (Before about May or June please ;) )

Kuranosuke: Keep an eye out for a mildly lifted white 4x4 with black modular wheels, chrome pushbar, chrome visor, and a big whip CB antenna, that'll be me. We should meet up sometime, maybe hit American Dream Pizza or something.

By the way, I found a link to the definition of Mikado

id kinda like to find out about retro fitting AC also.
i still have all the AC crap that was on the truck and most of the stuff that was on the 3.8 buick that is going in.
i hate to lose all that free HP from ditching the AC but i like to be cool in the summer too 8) :lol:

800xl: Yeah, that would be cool. Mine is also mildly lifted, but with grungy red paint, chrome wheels, and a chrome S-10 rear bumper with a poorly aligned mount. It's parked at OSU nearly everyday (or will be when I put the electrical system back together), at the corner of 14th and Monroe.

To be on-topic: Mine has the HUGE Mikado plate on both sides of the bed.
