bought the double hump bare heads for $100 (only one in picture), heavy duty springs for $25, valves for around $60 and the keepers and retainers were free. I plan on putting them on in about a week when I get some more money for head gaskets and an intake gasket. Just in time to get ready for the drag races coming up!

that is cheap for that set of heads.
so they already have a valve job on them?

The reason I got 'em for that price is because some old guy retired from his shop so he wanted to get rid of all his motors, heads, pistons, and everything else so I bought it from him along with the bottom end that I have in my truck around a year ago. Yeah everything looks good so far, but I am going to get them looked at by someone who really knows a lot about them.

Alright got the heads put together. Checked them for leaks it turned out to be good. Going to put them on next week.

Holy cow! I took the cylinder heads off the block and there was black sand looking stuff from all the burnt oil. My piston rings were definently shot. So I replaced them too. Put the engine back together. It runs so much better!! And stronger! I would'nt doubt if I had like 5:1 compression with warped and cracked heads, and piston rings with 8+ thousands gap.

Hey with 5:1 compression you could have boosted the crap out of it....lol
oh but the leak down test probably wouldn't give good results....

The leak tests wouldn't give good results ?? Are you talking about the new heads or a compression test?

He means a leak down test. To see how well the compression will hold in the cylinder. with rings being shot,you would get a terrible result.
