I've noticed lately on automotive shows on TV that in the U.K., gearheads are running 354 Chevy motors. Can someone explain to me why such an odd displacement? Is this a standard displacement or are they being specific with an overbore?

I dont know... I've seen 3 different shows that featured vehicles with Chevy smallblock 354 motors. A dragster racing family in Australia, A 4WD racer in New Zealand and i think some power boats in Scottland or Ireland.
It just seems odd to see such a unique displacement in 3 different countries and the only thing common to them is the fact that they're in the U.K.

Could it be a Metrics-SAE conversion thing.
In the US we generally start out with SAE and convert to Metric.
So, when they convert to SAE maybe they round a little different then the US  .
I don't know, just a thought  .

That sounds somewhat plausible. Maybe if a motor is patterned from S.A.E. specs, converting it to metric specs would make things slightly different. Deck height, rod length and bore size would all be affected so the overall displacement would change.
This is going to irritate me until i get a definitive answer...
