While I was at school a buddy of mine asked me if the 3 vent things on the cab did anything. The best response I could come up with was "It makes the truck bad-ass looking" Is there a purpose for them?

Yes they do have a function. It is actually called a vent box. It gives the air coming into the cab a way out, kind of helps to keep the air circulating around the driver and passenger(s)

You don't like em? I do, they are one of the things I think sets the truck apart from the rest... along with the line from the bed down the doors and fenders... like a good lookin woman.

Ok maybe that was a little over the top but I do like em!

I definitely like the vents and the line, I agree, it's what really sets them apart from other trucks!

i love how they look on the truck and how it sets it apart from all the others. Are they connected to the hole in the wall kinda by the side of the seat?

I like the vents too. They are distinctive. But a number of people have eliminated theirs from their trucks. It just goes to the look one goes for.
Dont be suprised after you're done that your ears will pop when you try and shut the door. The vents relieved pressure in the cab. This is assuming that your door and window seals are in good shape.

*Note* That wasn't the most stupid question on earth. Not by a long shot.

u can cut them out and tack a pice of sheet metal behind it and bondo away and then do some sanding but i don't know if i like the idea of bondo yet i heard it cracks when there is alot of weather variations

NO,NO,NO!

You get a bunch of shaving cream, shaving gel works best and then you get a whole pack of disposable razors, you will need a whole bag, so don't kid yourself. Then you get to work and hope for the best.

Disposables? I always use a good old straight razor for shaving. My favorite is one passed down generations in my family. My Grandfather used it to shave the hole for the crank in the front of the family jalopy after he upgraded it to electric start. My Dad then used it to shave a little off the back of a 41 chevy sedan. He got carried away and it turned into a flatbed by the time he was done. ;)

Actually, the 41 chev story is mostly true. Dad used to run it around their farm and pull the manure spreader around the field. One day he apparently had too much gas in the cutting torch I guess and turned it into a sort of truck.

Seriously though, the cab could have been vented in a lot of other places. I suppose they chose that spot to put the vents because there is a low pressure area right in there when you are rolling down the road, but I'm sure there are other spots that would have worked. I think of them as LUV trademark myself, but can appreciate the clean lines of having them shaved along with the door handles and etc. Think of them like this, if you don't see any rust down in them, odds are good the rest of the truck will be largely rust free. Its a quick and dirty way to size up a LUV before buying.

a very small amount of bondo is ok, just dont go an cake it on like an inch thick, if you can weld really good chances are you wont need bondo
