There are sensors on the brake, clutch, and gas pedals...

I know the one on the brake is for the brake lights, but what are the ones on the clutch and gas pedal for?

Thanks

I think the one on the gas pedal is for the coasting richer solenoid on the hitachi carb.

The clutch actually has two depending on the year. One for starter safety and one for the coasting richer system. I think 77 or older lacks the starter lockout switch.

The coasting richer system is setup to give the motor a little more fuel if three things are true:
Gas pedal not pressed
Clutch not pressed
Trans in 3rd or 4th gear

That is where all the switches come from. The idea is that the truck needs a bit more fuel when coasting in order to maintain good emissions.

my 72 does not have the neutral lockout switch as well.

also, i believe the coasting ericher system retards the timing with the dual point setup...that has been disabled on mine and am now just using the advanced points with a weber. minimal backfiring, but still a little bit.
